In his last two fights he has split decisioned Jones with one leg and knocked out the current champion.

How is he not the best LHW currently, regardless of who happens to hold the belt at the moment? Poor Glover.

Lets see how durable he is after blowing both knees out and continuing to fight on them for several rounds.

    Santos will KO Glover

And then Jan vs Santos, somebody getting knocked out too

Damn, LHW is so much better without Jon Jones decisioning everyone

It's certainly fair for he and his fans to claim. He'll still need to do it again in the rematch to get the full recognition. The injuries also put a big ? in it.

He knocked out Jan before, but that doesn't mean he does it again if they fight again. He's not the best until he dethrones him as champion.

An MRI revealed a torn ACL, MCL and PCL on Santos' left knee as well as a meniscus tear. Doctors suspect he may also have re-injured his right knee, which was surgically operated on prior to his gutsy performance against Jones at UFC 239. ====> Most likely all explosiveness gone

That's a silly way to think. The belt doesn't change the fact that Thiago knocked Jan out not that long ago. Jan has to prove in a rematch he is now better than Thiago, not the other way around, obviously.

Fighters evolve. Struve kicked Miocics' ass some years ago. And dominating fighters decline with age or 5 round wars fighting the best. One bad day at the "office" can be life changing. This is not like any other sport or career. We should understand that. It's just easier to conclude with the best fighter in the division is the man with the belt. Even if potentially better fighters get bypassed because they are not a PPV draw. Tony Ferguson was on a mad tear with winning streak. But we never got to see if he was better than Khabib. Instead he fought the best of the best and now Gaethje is on paper the better fighter. Who lost to Alvarez, Poirier etc. They're all good. And it's a crazy sport.

Your way is the silly way to think. Jan's champion. Not Santos. If Santos goes around thinking he's the best, uncrowned champion and all that jazz, he winds up just like Reyes did. On the floor with no fucking idea where he is getting his ass kicked by someone people expected him to beat.

He hasn't fought for over a year and had knee surgery. I wonder how long he wasn't able to train properly. Just look at Paulo Costa who turned into punchbag in his recent fight after having a blast over Romero.

A lot has changed in a year and a half. Jan looks totally different. I remember watching probably 10 of his fights before he even came to the UFC and always thought he was boring and middle of the road. Thought the same in the UFC but he started to pick up the intensity. The last few years he has really turned the corner in many ways which is crazy at his age and after such a long career while Santos' knees were destroyed. It's really f'ing stupid to assume the fight would go down the same now and just assume Thiago is better. Jan is the one with the belt around his waist looking super improved while Thiago has been out getting surgeries. Sometimes things just come together for fighters. You look at guys like Drew Dober who was an absolute decision machine losing to anyone good and now he's crushing guys. Things have been coming together for Jan and it shows big time.

    TS is pretty thick imo.
