I have already been doing bjj for an incredible 6 months, but i for the last 2 ys everytime i see a wicked judo throw, i am amazed by the beauty of the movement (honestly, who isnt) and contemplated taking the art. Then something incredible happened! I got a job! So now i have money to pay for both BJJ and Judo, so i will sign up first thing on monday. I am also going to get my little paws on an Adidas double Weave and watch videos on Kimura for the next 24hrs. My takedowns are paltry at best so, I know that this will improve my game to an almost diety status. And in the next 6 yrs or something when I am an impressive B level MMA fighter, and by some act of god, Diego Sanchez is still undefeated, I will be the first person to toss him right out of the Octagon! Shortly afterwards I will be beaten into a bloody mess, but still!

congrats judo is awesome, don't like the Adidas Gi's myself but that is just becasue I ruined one after jsut a few weeks could have been a faulty one thou and not the brand

Niice. I did judo on and off with my BJJ for about a year, but my new Gracie Barra club actually teaches some good throws and such.

I'm back to almost pure Brazilian Jiu Jitsu now, although judo does kick ass.

Cross training BJJ and judo is a great way to go ... adding wrestling to the mix makes it perfect :icon_chee

its not the gi, it the person

It's not the person, it's the syle

I'm gonna sign up for Judo at the park district and I think I'm going to get the Adidas single weave club judogi.

question: would the single weave err.. tear from the constant gripping during training or competition? i would like one because its considerably cheaper than a dbl. thanks.

gracie_barra: good stuff on exploring judo! I'm waiting to get a job so i can start doing BJJ (crosstraining rocks!)

Anyway, go check out CSI for cheap adidas gi's. You gotta call in and ask about them, cuz on the site it says that there aren't any left, but people returned some of them. Bleh! anyway, let us know what you end up with and let us know how you enjoy judo! Good luck and congrats!

you need the double weave, some of the dudes I have trained with have Gi that weight in at several pounds, they are so stiff they frekkin stand on their own. And single weave, well I have destroyed 3 guys Gi but that were Karate Gi's

Get a decent DW, the SWs are for pussies... :D. Frankly - early on it doesnt matter what brand you get. I have 3 no-name brands (SportsMaster) that were cheapish that I normally wear as training suits - keeping my Mizunos for occasional use & competition.

The no-name brands are still going - a bit threadbare (but that adds to t3h look) after 5-6 years of punishment.

If you are serious about competition get a DW. The main benefit of a DW is that they are harder to grip solidly and at the higher levels Judo is all about the grip wars. But if you just want to train a SW will hold up fine. I got a cheap SW that has lasted me almost ten years. It is covered in blood and sweat stains that will never come out but it is in good shape.
