So my computer may be self aware

there is no need for concern captain. your computer is perfect. it is based on your brain pattern after all.

Windows 10 took control of your house
Congratulations!
All your base are belong to them.

Well, it had a random high increase of power go through the outlet to the PC, I'm guessing, so there could be a lot more power than usual in the cord and the computer is being effected by it, causing it to turn on.

This used to happen with old TV's before, not sure if it happens with the current, newer ones of today - but if you have a TV plugged into the wall for so many years, you can unplug it and it can still turn on even though it's not even plugged in, because there's still power in the cord that was connected to the wall because it was plugged in for so long. Sometimes the power will stay in the cord for quite a good while until it runs out, pretty much.

Something like that could have happened with the power cord or whatever to your PC. There could just be more power going through it than usual and it's causing the PC to turn on by itself. The PC is not meant to have that much power going into it, so for the cord to be, basically overloaded due to that power surge from the lightning blowing that transformer, it gave the PC a huge burst of power in a very short time and now the PC is sensing the power when it's turned off, making it turn back on again by itself.

I don't really know, it's likely something completely different than what I'm saying, just a thought, though.

So in other words, we can't even be sure we're talking to NoGoodNamesLeft...

leave some steak and a glass of whiskey in the room for it, see if you can make peace with it

ill just blow some reefer into it and gently stroke the power cord.
I do nto want it to think what it is doing is ok, but i also do not want to create an envioronment of fear and sabatoge.

Tell your ISP to install a fuckin ground block so your house doesn't burn down next time.

pure pseudo science phooey bud. maybe a capacitor in a tv but the cord would not be a capacitor

Last night lightning struck right outside my house, blew some kind of transformer thing. It caused my computer to restart, and it destroyed my modem. Nothing else in house was even affected a little. I am guessing the spike came in through internet wires, blew out modem, and traveled on ethernet cord to my pc. Now my ethernet port on the MB is toast. Thankfully I do not think it did any more damage.....but now my computer wont shut off. And it turns itself on after I shut it off. I hooked a usb wifi card up out of necessity, but I feel like it is destined to get broken as it sticks out wither the front of back of my desktop like 3 inches, and i have cats and kids that like to run and knock stuff over.
Is my computer now self aware? I mean it cleaerly prefers to be on now, and I cannot stop it from turning itself on,a nd staying on unless I pull plug.
What do sherdog?

How do you know it was 3 inches?

Get a proper UPS with ethernet (assuming there) for future protection.

Windows 8.1 and 10 will be very aware as well as smart phones and TV's will all your activities. :icon_chee Time to go back to the stone age.

Only 1 next logical step.

Damn, I was legit thinking about Weird Science at the beginning of the thread.

Why in the feck didn't one of those boys smash whats'er name?!

But anyway, I think it's more likely that the computer develops an online gambling and hippo-on-human porn habit - using TS's banking info so that the eyes are all on TS when it's all found out. He'll probably lose his wife and cat as a part of the fallout. Then it'll be just him and the comp. Eventually, he'll likely get his revenge by grabbing the comp and diving in the tub to put an end to them both.
