I've always questioned situations like this. If a fighter gets cut for losing, doesn't that indirectly discredit the win of the other guy? To a knowledgeable fan the win over Okami was a big deal for Souza, but the way it's playing out he basically beat a guy that isn't good enough to even be in the UFC. Following that logic Jacare's win shouldn't get him any closer to a title shot, and should give him minimal praise. I hope that Dana gives little to no credit to Jacare in defeating a UFC outcast like Okami

I just don't understand the logic in releasing a gatekeeper, as Dana labeled him. A gatekeeper is a good thing. Any win over Okami can be seen as a solid indicator of a title contender.

It depends entirely on how the UFC needs to spin a fighter at any given moment.

At the current moment they want to push Jacare so Okami is a top talent that had to leave for any reason other than being a poor fighter (true in this case).

If they ever decide to cut Jacare, then Okami will be said to always have been a can and Jacare never beat anyone.

In the Rio scrum the other day, Dana said about Jacare's win "no one does that to Okami". Sorry to "disappoint" you.

Dana made a huge deal about how impressive it was that Jacare could beat Okami so easily.

it's not that simple. Okami is tough to beat no matter what, because he doesn't engage. Winning against someone tough to beat is an accomplishment. but it still doesn't mean the guy was a great fighter.

Good answer. Maia fitching Fitch is a similar situation. WW and MW need contenders. If the UFC trashes the outgoing guy, they discredit their contender.

Everyone knows Jacare beat a very good MW, even the UFC brass. I don't think the cut hurts anyone who beat Okami at all.

no, don't be dumb. fighters are fighters.. if a fighter beats a fighter that's good regardless to where they are then that's good. it's not rocket science..

if you wanna look down on fighters that aren't or werent' int he ufc. then anderson sucked cause he was in mpride first.. shogun sucked, barnet, anthony pettis, ben henderson, and jsut aout every other fighter ever.. don't be dumb.

The funny thing is that they had the same middleweight champ for 6 years, so essentially everyone else in that division was a gatekeeper.

Everyone knows why Okami was cut and everyone knows that it's not because he's not a UFC caliber fighter.

I think everyone considers the Jon Fitch win a great one for Hendricks and it established Maia as a top dog at WW. The fans know what's up.
