What was this narrative really anyways?

Khabib was the only Dagestani champ before Islam and retired in his prime due to personal circumstances, while fulfilling his obligations as champ and defeating two Interim champs back to back. He was never really linked to WW.

Islam is now moving up and has said for a long time he will. Ank just won and noone is going to blame him for not fighting at HW anytime soon.

I think it may have started when there was GSP/Khabib talks and Khabib refused to fight an old way past his prime GSP at 170 and wanted him to make a crazy cut for the 1st time in his life down to 155 instead.

Dagis are very shrewd when it comes to selecting opponents. Islam should be the favorite but JDM has Craig Jones on his side. It is going to be the 3rd time they prepped for Islam. It might be a hard fight for Islam if he can't run over JDM. Islam hasn't fought a sub 30 year old guy in a while now.

Nah man, he vacated all respect for going up and taking on the champ in a new weightclass.

If he held the belt he was ducking Ilia and refusing to move up properly. Especially considering how long he has been having between fights after easier wins.

It's unfortunate that two of his wins are Volk on short notice and Moicano. If he beat Arman and Charles x2 he would have been undeniable. Going to 170 to fight JDM is the best way to surpass Khabib's legacy.

Islam is a legend for this regardless of getting the belt at 170.

Well I trained in wrestling and a bit of combat sambo. If you like to wrestle, how can you not love Khabib and his high pressure style, giving no hope, crushing his opponents mentally as well as physically. I like that hard nosed go right at the opponents style.

Regarding combat sambo, Fedor was like that too even if he mostly used explosive trip takedowns rather than all the chain wrestling Khabib does.

Khabib might be the best of those Dagestanis but obviously there are similar traits in the guys from that region.
