So if Romero wins but doesn’t get the belt is the middleweight division in a standstill?

If Romero wins then GSP is reinstated as champ and defends the belt against Nate Diaz.
 
If romero wins convincingly then he will fight whittaker for the real belt.
 
With the way things are going, I expect them to announce the fight if off any minute because Romero was ill.

Honestly, to me it doesn't make any difference. The winner will be the number one ranked and will fight Whittaker.

Is their going to be a situation everytime from now wherever the true champ gets injured, an interim belt will always be created.

Luke has already announced he'll be moving to LHW soon. If Yoel wins I think Luke has to move up. There would simply be no interim champion and Yoel would likely rematch Whitaker. Even if Rocksalt wins he'll probably be gone to LHW soon so the MW division will be left in the same situation.

I guess they could do a rematch of Whitaker and Jacare but no one in the top 5 really stands out. There's Gastelum but he lost to Weidman pretty badly. Even with his win over Gastelum, Weidman is 1-3 in his last 4.

I blame most of this on Bisping's refusal to fight a contender for so long. The top 5 had to fight among themselves and Moose, who was the only guy who put together a good streak, got so disgusted by his inability to get a title shot he left for Bellator.
 
Whittaker is the the real champion.

There shouldn't even be an interim belt on the line.
 
Once again, this highlights the issue with doling out interim belts. Just label Rockhold/Romero a 1-contender fight and be done with it. Now if Romero wins, and fights for the undisputed his next fight with out being the "interim champ", the belt continues to be devalued. The winner tonight should fight Bobby but on principle, Romero should be forced to fight another contender first.

That is what one can expect in media today, as they pander to millennials and their micro attention spans.
 
Well IC is basically the number 1 contender, so the winner is gonna fight Whittaker for the undisputed belt anyway. No harm done in my eyes.
