The two most frequently heard excuses for Silva's double losses to Weidman:
1. Silva was clowning (for the first fight)
2. Silva was old (for both fights)
Well...wasn't Weidman a hyped up rookie who hadn't faced any real competition? Wasn't Weidman's lack of experience at the "elite" level a major disadvantage against the GOAT Silva?
At some point, age becomes an overwhelming obstacle to a fighter's performance...but Silva hadn't reached that point.
Silva was 38 for both fights. He was very successful at avoiding damage throughout his career. He wasn't "old man" Silva. His speed didn't look significantly slower compared to his speed in previous fights. Guy was still fast and spry and light on his feet.
Weidman simply had the fight IQ, reach, and combo to end Silva's "matrix" dancing days.
