MM tried to make it look realistic.

I know you're referring to the camerawork, but I love how real it seems. I don't know many other period films that don't seem overly stagey or fake. Even ROAD TO PERDITION seems unreal by comparison. Guy Ritchie's SHERLOCK HOLMES series and Ron Howard's HEART OF THE SEA look like paintings.
