Today's MMA has superb athletes and specific training in the technique in what works in today's fight game so I have to get that out of the way.
But I gotta say the brutality, no gloves, less rules they had years ago is superior entertainment. The thing is I get to see the heart of a fighter without a Herb Dean jumping in after one punch. I grew up watching Bloodsport, Kickboxer like anyone that was a kid or teenager in the 80's and 90's. Back in the day you saw the skills of different disciplines and the destruction of certain fighting skills to determine what really works and we all have a good idea now on what you need to excel at which led to 50 percent of today's fighters doing the same thing.
Then I started watching the Pride shows and that was the pinnacle without question imo. The entertainment value was leagues above in what we have today regardless if the current fighters are better. Throw them in a ring with Pride rules and roids and have a raging prime Wanderlei Silva across staring into you.
Damn that shit was good. I watched Smashing Machine afterwards with the animal prime Kerr that I haven't seen for a while and it reminded me and blew me away how much violence and heart we used to see. Now we have a watered down UFC. I just had to get this rant out so just bleed.
