Whenever I see an Alistair Overeem in MMA topic, people always seem to disregard the K-1 championship title.
The thought process is that K-1 striking may not completely correlate to MMA.
Of course, the two big differences are the smaller gloves and the threat of a takedown. In the UFC's case, the other difference is the Octagon.
But anyway, my question is this... do you really think championships in K-1/pro boxing translate well to MMA?
As a grappler, people ask if ADCC/Mundials championships translate to MMA. My answer is normally that it depends on the style of grappler. Certain grapplers who have a slick no-gi game, solid takedowns, good in scrambles, can sweep off their back, and are good finishers can translate well to MMA. Other grapplers probably don't.
Can I expect a similar answer for striking? And what attributes in K-1 striking and professional boxing translate well to MMA?
