Can we get a consensus opinion on this subject?
....Cause it seems like some are torn

Before machida fight (perez fight I believe)

Erik Anders played (and started) at Alabama. His athleticism is off the charts. I'm going with the A+ level athlete.

I don't even know pal, I didn't watch that fight and I don't think I've ever seen him fight, at least I couldn't tell you a thing about him.

Surely an A Level athlete would beat Machida at this point in his career ?

Is this guy another of the Schaub and Mitrione ilk ? Or is he actually good ?

Never heard of him before. Fast forwarded most of the fight. Machida isn't very exciting.

Great athlete....and judging by the fight last weekend, a HUGE Machida fan.

he is no derek brunson. dont see him cracking the top ten

I think Eryk "Colonel" Anders is a better nickname.

It doesn't matter what level athlete he is with bad fight IQ. He had Machida hurt a couple of times and stupidly decided to go for takedowns instead of throwing more punches.

Damn I actually think mitrione is pretty good when he's on and not running into bad luck(eye poked, injured)

Not saying he's a poor fighter...I just remember when he and Schaub hit the scene their previous athletic endeavors were played up a lot, they were proclaimed as great athletes and members of the 'new breed'. I don't think either of them were particularly great athletes, at least, they weren't more athletic than other HWs like say, Stipe, Arlovski, Randleman, Fedor, Cro Cop, Overeem, Lesnar, Cain, JDS and co. I could rattle of even more names here. The point I'm trying to make is, they were no more athletic than what we had then or have now.

Is this Anders guy actually a top tier athlete, in your opinion ? Is he more athletic than other middleweights like Rockhold, Romero, Whittaker, Jacare, Weidman, GSP ?

He’s a good athlete, just had trouble closing the distance with Machida and also hesitant to pull the trigger.

I also think he’s getting judged a little too harshly. He ate a few of Machida’s straight lefts and seemed to visibly fold a little on a couple of those body kicks.

Everybody shits on Machida for being past him prime, but even so he’s still dangerous and hits hard.

Dunno about athleticism but i feel like he's done enough in his first 3 fights to pay attention to him closer than many other 3 fight guys in the ufc.

i despised mitrione due to his acting on the show but he is surprisingly good considering his background & when he started

No way!

Romero is a world champion and Olympic medalist wrestler

Weidman is two time all American athlete

Rockhold, jacare and GSP at natural athletes

You and me are on the same page I think.... this isnt a pro A level athlete thread...youre not mad at me are you bro?

We're on the same team lol
