So GSP has the record for winning 33 straight rounds....

does it matter? that's not a record that anyone should want to have.

Not losing a single round 33 times in a row is an impressive feat. Close to impossible to achieve.

No need to insert unecessary fighter bias into such a feat. It's just impressive as is.

A shitty record? guess what, any of the greats could have won 33 rounds in a row at any time, but didn't. Anderson and Fedor were incredible in their own ways but never at any time did they dominate 33 consecutive rounds.

Will it stand for 10 years like the op asks? Its a record that could stand for the rest of our lives.

lol, the point-nerds are out in full-force in this thread.

Every champion of every division fights to finish now that GSP is gone.

They don't have the skillset to pull off what GSP did. They're not as good as he was, and their competition isn't as good relative to welterweight.

Aldo is also getting a lot of flack for being boring lately.

well, it's certainly not as impressive as finishing fights, because it's easier to play it safe and win on points, than it is to finish your opponent. if anything, that record shows how ineffective gsp was in fighting. he always said that his goal was to finish fights, yet he never finished in the latter half of his career.

so by his own goals, he never achieved the biggest goal in a fight, and that is to finish. as gsp himself has stated. but for anyone who isn't chugging down the kool-aid, knows that he never tried to finish. he lied to everyone during that run, and then ran away and retired the moment someone gave him his toughest fight, and in a fight where many people felt he lost.

the point-nerds may find it impressive, while everyone else laughs at such records.

many champions don't want to fight the way gsp fought. jones finishes guys. velasquez finishes guys. weidman finishes guys. those three have a different mindset. they try finishing, while gsp muscled up in order to fight as defensive as possible for the safest win imaginable.

that's why there are a lot of people who didn't respect the way he approached fighting.

Fedor won 42 rounds straight. Or point out which round did he lose between Arona and Werdum.

Great record

I've always thought the rounds thing was a bit dubious. He won that many rounds because he refused/was unable to finish fights in the later part of his career.

GSP lost the skillset to finish fights.

He should get dusted like Fedor and Anderson to cement a real legacy.

I don't really understand your point here. He did finish 3 of those 8 fights during that span, and actually should have had a 4th if there was a competent doctor ringside during the 2nd Kos fight.

probably will never be beaten. to fight that scared, for your division to be that much worse than you as you're fighting so super scared, it's never going to happen again.

Yes.... scared professional fighter who is fighting the best guys in the world.... yes so super scared of fighting.

Riiight winning on points is super easy...
I guess what Mayweather has done in boxing is incredibly easy too.

Let's all become top level fighters, what do you guys say?

doubt it will ever be broken. not a lot of guys as good/dominant as gsp who's fights almost always go the distance.

gsp himself stated that he tried finishing fights, yet couldn't. so what was easier for him? winning on points, or finishing fights? it was obviously easier for him to win on points, because he wasn't able to finish fights.

so one can only come to two conclusions: he either couldn't finish fights, or he didn't try. so which one is it?

Fedor has that beat. He went 10 years in between losing a single round.

Fedor went 42 straight rounds ( in 28 fights) before losing a round when Werdum subbed him

and finished. holy dominance, batman

Yep. A better comparison would be that Fedor went 28 fights straight without losing a round and GSP went 8 fights straight before losing a round to Shields.
