Immigrants are definitely a financial benefit in the long term, this is undeniable. This has been argued back and forth across the western world and conservatives have been proven wrong every time. This is especially true of adult immigrants.

However, aren't we talking about asylum seekers here?

Immigrants, undocumented aliens and asylum seekers are all very different things. Aren't they?

Skilled, wealthy migrants moving to a country is a benefit to the country they move to (and a negative to the country they leave) but they were talking about illegal economic migrants, people fleeing poor countries to get a slice of America's pie. Def a drain on a countries finances and services. An asylum seeker is different, they are stateless individuals who line up for asylum seeker migration spots. They are often a benefit too (although can often be troubled and in some cases small time terrorists, like that of the sydney Lindt cafe gunman).

People lose faith in the political system because there is no political party that will stop this insanity in Canada. A mass immigration policy at a time where the public healthcare system is broken, where there is no affordable housing and inflation is running rampant. Many reports of new immigrants living 8 and 9 in a 2 bedroom apartment in my province. Is this the new standard for Canada? Working class people choosing between a tent city or or jamming 9 people in an apartment? Yes we need immigration, and immigration has contributed to what we are today. However this policy to letting people pour in when we don't have the infrastructure nor resources to support it is a ticking time bomb in Nova Scotia. We have 300 students in this university town who can't even start school because the vacancy rate is 0.1% due to the absolute horror that was the last 12 years of government in my province, blocking development unless they get kickbacks.

Thankfully the new PC government is fast tracking development and making the NIMBYs lose their minds just like Hamm did in the early 2000s. But its still going to take years to catch up and get back to 8% vacancy

And right now, the influx is to add workers to the jobs cleaning your toilets and serving your food to prevent companies from having to give raises. You live in Quebec where the reliance on temporary foreign workers and seasonal workers to serve the economy is pretty common and you have more control over who gets let in permanently than any other province, so you only keep the best and brightest and send the seasonals who thought they would get to live there packing. Especially if they complain about it. Essentially, using them as temporary slave labor
