So Aspinall's Undisputed Now? Let's Talk Reality in the HW Division.

Jones should've been more active. He was the undisputed champ. Tom shouldn't have to keep defending an interim title, that's absurd and unprecedented. Jones created two different title paths while competing all the while promoting a title fight with Stipe. BTW at the latest stage of his career, multi year layoff after a vicious KO.

So it's either trolling or lacking several IQ points

If I'm being honest I expected a few here to already be on the "Tom's a paper champ" run, because that's the usual go to when someone gets gifted the undisputed.

I guess everybody was so tired of Jon that those usual tropes aren't kicking in yet.

Widely lauded as the UFC HW GOAT. Why wouldn't you want that name on your resume. It's the icing on the cake of a GOAT career.

Why didn't the dig up the bones of Joe Frasier, then?

Stipe was old and retired. Claiming Jones beat, and therefore took over the mantle of, the best ufc hw ever because they dragged stipe back into the ring with a huge payday, is totally disingenuous.

OK, Sherdoggers, Jon Jones has officially retired, and our new "undisputed" UFC Heavyweight Champion is Tom Aspinall. The online community is absolutely losing their minds, acting like this is some kind of cosmic justice because bones supposedly "ducked" him for years.

And honestly, while it's come as a surprise , I think some of you need a serious reality check before you go crowning Aspinall the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Here's a little perspective for those blinded by the hype:

Let's cut through the noise about Jones "ducking" Aspinall. While everyone was clamoring for that fight, let's look at the actual facts regarding recent activity for a champion. Jon Jones, the man who just vacated the undisputed heavyweight belt, defended his HW title against Stipe Miocic in November 2024 at UFC 309.

Meanwhile, Tom Aspinall's last outing was his interim title defense against Curtis Blaydes in July 2024 at UFC 304. So, if you're talking about who was more recently active as a heavyweight champion (interim or undisputed), it was Jones. Plain and simple. Jones had a commitment to Miocic, a legendary heavyweight in his own right, and he honored it. Period.

Now, Aspinall is out there proclaiming he's going to be this super active champion, and you worms are eating it up like candy. And sure, it sounds great on paper. Everyone wants an active champ.

But let's be real: the heavyweight division isn't a cakewalk, one well timed punch and your title reign is done. Injuries are a constant threat. Jon Jones, the GOAT, meticulously planned his career and his fights for longevity and dominance. To expect Aspinall to suddenly be fighting every few months in this division after a relatively short career is, frankly, naive.

By putting Aspinall on this massive pedestal right now, and hyping up this "Jones ducked him" narrative, many of you are essentially setting him up for failure. When (not if) he eventually has to take time off due to injury, or if he can't fight as frequently as he's promising, will you all still be cheering? Or will the same crowd calling him the savior of the division turn on him for not living up to an unrealistic standard you helped create?

Look, Aspinall is clearly a good fighter, but let's not rewrite history or project some kind of flawless, ultra-active reign onto him just because Jon Jones retired. Jones cemented his legacy, defended against a legend, and exited on his own terms. Aspinall now has the real belt, and the real pressure.

My advice? Enjoy the moment, but maybe hold off on the hype talk and the unrealistic expectations for the kid. The big boys of heavyweight division have a way of humbling even the best intentions - there's a reason that belt doesn't stay with the holders for many defences typically.
ok

JJ was clearly gifted it more than Tom in the first place.

We have Gane and Almeida to look forward to. That’s about it. I’d pick Tom over both, but you have to admit, it would be hilarious if Gane beat Tom in dominant fashion. The “Jones duck” crowd would probably commit mass suicide.

I think the other way, it would be funny to see that Jones, who clearly ducked Aspinall, did so without real justification, that he was ducking someone he needn't have even ducked. Makes Jones even more of a duck

That would be my opinion usually when a champ leaves and the new guy gets crowned without a fight but he won the Interim title and even defended it while Jones refused to fight him.

I feel ya, that's kinda where I'm at.

Realize I'm not saying i feel that way, I just expected to see it said a time or two already, given how this place usually reacts to that situation.

Tom could probably hold on to that belt as long as he wants as long as he doesn’t do anything stupid inside the octagon. He’s levels above all the other Hws in the division.

Also if he does have to take time off due to injury, that’s far different than taking time off due to ducking. Jon will go down as the biggest duck in UFC history.

As soon as Tom won the interim title, he became the real champ and Jon became the paper champ.

An interim title should never be defended while the undisputed champ is able to fight.

You talked a lot of nonsense.
The only thing I agree with is that a well-placed punch can end anyone's reign, the rest is just garbage.

Jones should have retired as soon as he beat the fireman.
Jones dragging his feet like this only tarnished his legacy.

Jones has shown a weak psyche, he is afraid of fighting and afraid of losing(We hear from his own mouth that he is terrified of the thought of defeat)

He is very far from Tom, very different from Aspinall, who wants the fight, wants to win, wants to compete, wants to be active.

There is a huge gap between them at this point in both of their careers.

You don't like fighting, my friend, you like men, you should think about doing something else with your life, man.

Does venting make it feel better?
Jones is now trying to duck law enforcement

the final autistic screeches of Jones fanboys are so heartwarming to read/hear.

go outside and get some fresh air lil bro

This thread really proves that none of you seem to care that Tom became interim champ because Jon was injured and incapable of fighting.

Everybody saying Jon wasted a year of Tom's time is a dishonest hack. Your BEST CASE was if Jon had fought Tom in November and if not and he fought Stipe like he did THEN you start the clock. You can't say he should've fought Tom last March or whatever. There's a reason he wasn't fighting Stipe then either.
