Smith machine ?

Maybe I'm just unlucky, but every time I use a Smith Machine I get hurt a little bit. In the past I traveled a lot, so sometimes I hotel would have one and I figured I would try it. Maybe I was going too heavy or using to large of a ROM, but I did get minor injuries here and there. IMO it is because the range of motion isn't natural, you are forced to follow that groove and then push really hard against it. In certain pressing lifts it kind of hurts. You might be able to pull ok, but I can't see being able to do a good squat out of it.
