If you've read Wamrage's Smartguards review thread, then you know the story behind how I came to choose Smartguards and the whole ordering process, so I'll focus on the guards themselves in this thread.

Now, this is going to be an ongoing review throughout my whole experiences with these mouthguards, and as I got them only a few days ago this initial post will be about my first impressions. I will update the thread accordingly as I use them more.

Right off the bat, I was impressed with the way the guards looked. They are sleek and very professional looking. The colors are vibrant and solid, and the design I chose based on the flag of the Philippines turned out even better than I'd hoped.

Like I said in the other thread, the fit is just f'ing amazing. If you've used boil-n-bite all your life and try a custom fit guard for the first time, you'll know what I mean. The comfort level is phenomenal. They fit so nice and tight that I had to use both hands to yank them out. Far cry from my old b-n-b mouthpiece that fell out of my mouth if I opened it slightly.

Pics with the guard in mouth will follow after I get the bottom impressions on. Thanks to Daren/Smarguards for filling me on the proper way to do that, and huge thanks and major props to him for helping me out through the whole process of getting these awesome guards.

That looks f*ckin awesome! I've been thinking about a similar design (when I eventually do get a custom). It's either Smartguards or Starsguards for me.

Any shipping issues to/from Canada? For your bottom impressions were you instructed to boil or torch?

No real issues, but there were a few delays because of some mistakes on my part in sending the impression there.

This is what Daren/smartguards told me regarding getting the bottom teeth impressions on the guard:

put a half inch of water in a bowl and pop it in the microwave for 1 min -water only.
take the bowl out and set the guard into it -shiny side down for about 45 sec.
take out of the water and put it in.. bite GENTLY into it.

nice review and info. I plan on picking one up at some point. Nice design as well.

Thanks, Shogun. One of the initial reasons I picked Smartguards was because I really dug the look of the mouthguard designs on their website. I knew they'd be able to make exactly what I wanted.

that's a great looking design. i was gonna get a guard similar to that. philippine flag and all. great job with the design.

Sounds simple enough.

I'll try to get the pics with of the bottom impressions up by Monday.

The difference between boil n bite and custom is like a rubber and a........

PS this thread and Daren both rule.

I hope more people start going to smartguards.

A) They make amazing products (mine are still in awesome shape)

B) The service I received was excellent

C) Price was very good

These guys are in Toronto....

I am going to get these sometime this year. Dayum! About time Toronto got some good local businesses for mma related equipment.

Can't really help there. I've never looked around for mouthguards for braces so I don't know if any local stores carry them. I bought my BnB mouthguards, a couple of Brainpad Pro+ doubles, from Chris Sports years ago and they seemed to have other makes and models as well, so maybe that dude can check out one of their outlets and see if they have any.
