I'm moving there shortly, and I'd appreciate any opinions on MMA schools there. The only two I know of are UCTC and ELITE. I know Elite is Jeremy Horn's school, but that's not a reason to join by itself. The last place I trained with had a Pro Muy Thai/Carlson Cracie Black Belt, but the instruction was just o.k.

Thoughts? Experiences? Any help much appreciated.

Well I know if you're looking for sport jiu-jitsu Pedro Sauer had a school there for forever. He recently moved to...Virginia I think, but he still has a couple of schools in the area that I'm sure he visits regularly. I've been to several of Pedro's seminars and if the instructors that he trusted to run his academies in SLC and Ogden are half as good as he is I'd go there immediately.

IF you're looking for sport jiu-jitsu.

Pedro's instructors are top notch. Trust me. If you're just looking for jiu-jitsu you can't go wrong with any of them. I train under Eddie Edmunds and Johnny Carlquist at Fusion Academy, both Pedro black belts. Carlquist is the guy the other black belts come to learn from. Every class has four or five black belts there. Other instructors include Ricky Lundell, James Gardner, Matt Strack, John Shibonis, Paul Sizemore, Shawn Weaver.

If you're looking mma, you've already identified the top 2. Also, Rob Handley has a great place in West Jordan (forgot what it's called). Also, Mushin Academy has produced some top notch guys. The best fighters come out of Horn's camp at Elite. He has several studs who will be making waves on the mma scene very soon. UCTC has top notch instructors and several studs, as well.

Shop around and find the best place for you. There are at least another six or eight places I haven't mentioned.
