Tough day.

Snatches felt great, 152 for doubles was extremely easy. Clean felt the best that have since I started doing them again, did a good job of actually catching the bar and not just diving under it. Jerks felt a bit off to start but finished feeling good.

I widen my stance significantly for squats, trying to mimic my front squat/clean receiving stance, and so were a little harder than anticipated. As were power jerks which felt a bit awkward.

Most surprising though was how tough overhead squats felt. Snatches couldn't have felt more steady and yet at a lower weight I was struggling. Even had to cut my third set short as I could feel I was going to lose it. Weird.

Really good session.

First snatch double at 152 didn't feel quite as good as I'd like, but subsequent sets felt extremely solid. Really focused on staying over the bar and it's definitely helping.

Clean and jerks followed same pattern. Focus was on catching bar and riding it down versus chasing it. Catch position was the best it's felt yet; no more star fishing and so standing up felt much better. Jerks felt great. I really focused on not pushing too soon and as a result my lockout much more solid.

I tested my front squat last weekend and was pretty shocked to fail on 255. My front squat in the past has always been about 90% of my back squat, so failing at 80% was pretty surprising. Explains why cleans have been the roughest getting back to of all the movements.

Think a big part of the drop-off is due to losing ankle dorsiflexion. It's been around 2 years since I last stopped focusing on weightlifting and in that time I was only ever in a full squat position when back squatting, and even that was only once a week.

Overheard squats continued to be a lot harder than they should be, something about the eccentric portion that I'm struggling with.

Clean and jerk triples are just tiring as fuck. Let the fatigue get to me a bit on the set at 157 was pretty sloppy, so said fuck it and really attacked second set and it was 10x better.

I really need to keep focusing on increasing my ankle flexibility, especially on my right ankle. I slacked off on that over the weekend and dear god was my right ankle tight, which really threw me off.

Snatch felt ok, seemed as though the second rep in all my doubles was always far better than my first. Went for 170 after my planned doubles just to see how tough it'd be. Ended up hitting it pretty solidly, though I could feel doubt creeping in, which is probably why I cut my extension way short.

Clean and jerks were predictably easy. Wanted to see if I could still power clean 180 and 192 so gave them a try. Both were solid.

Not sure if its cause I need to get a little more conditioned or if its me widening my stance, but squats were pretty damn tough. This was where my ankle's stiffness was fucking with me the most, bottom position felt terrible.

Off from work and was bored. Hopefully won't be an idiot and do this too often, though I did just find 24 hour gym that has bumper plates and platforms so who knows.

Left quad was cramping up during snatch warmups, which gave me the feeling this impromptu max out session wasn't going to go well.

Snatches felt ok to start. 165 was solid but I panicked at the last second on my attempt at 175. Basically dropped under the bar and immediately prepped to control/catch the miss. Disappointing.

Have a feeling that I might be pretty efficient in terms of clean and jerk to front squat. 210 wasn't a great clean, but didn't feel like a max, and the jerk was very steady.

Messed around with paused snatches after, just cause I hadn't done them in probably 2 years. Oddly enough I felt much more confident doing these compared to the regular snatches earlier. Hit 160, 2 second pause at just under knee, without a problem.

Can't believe I somehow hadn't seen the gym I mentioned earlier. It's less than 5 minutes from my place, has bumper plates, platforms, etc, has 24 hour access and isn't ridiculously priced. I'm pretty fucking excited.

Quick session today.

Snatches were cake, though I did tear a callous open that annoyed me the rest of the session.

Cleans were just okay. The first rep of each of the top triples was great; feet didn't come too far out, stayed upright, rode the bar down and even caught a bounce. But after that I my stance started getting a bit too wide .

Idk what it is about snatch high pulls, but I hate them. Was getting good height on the bar, but fuck did these tire me out.

Moved my stance in a bit on back squats, a kind of happy medium between my old squat stance and my clean catch stance, and was much more comfortable compared to earlier in the week.

This was a little bit of a makeup day for me. Skipped clean and jerks yesterday as I had a scab on my collarbone, got it a couple weeks back when I was letting the bar crash on me, that made it impossible to catch jerks without opening it back up.

So today scab fell off and I figured it was a good time to catch up. Unfortunately probably should have waited another day, as I very slightly tore the new skin.

Regardless, pretty good day. Cleans felt the best they have since I started doing them again. My feet were moving out just enough, I got under the bar really well and was even catching a bounce to the point that 180 felt as easy as it should have. I did start pushing a bit too soon on some of my jerks, but for the most part they were easy and solid, maybe 1 slight press out.

Been really diligent lately about stretching my ankles, at least twice a day, and gonna say it's paying off. This was the most upright I've been while catching cleans.

First day at new gym, so first time having access to a platform in over 2 years. Very strange but good day. Came in knowing I'd be a bit fatigued from yesterday, but really just wanted to get back to lifting on my program's prescribed days.

Snatches felt ok, the triples at 152 started very strong but by the third set my legs were already feeling it. Power cleans were more tiring than difficult and at that point I figured this was gonna be a "just get through it" type of session.

For some reason though BTN power jerks were ridiculously easy. Then pulls had me back to struggling and front squats, while I didn't miss any, had some embarrassingly bad reps.

Having the ability to finally drop the bar after so long meant that I'd walked in knowing I probably wouldn't be able to pass up the urge to try some heavier weights. And with how tired I was, I thought "eh BTN power jerks felt easy, let's see if I can hit 200."

When 200 felt as easy as it did, I went into max out mode. 225 and 235 were probably slight pressouts but my first attempt at 245 was so bad I just couldnt count it. Surprisingly second try was much more solid than 225 and 235. Attempt at 250 didn't feel very close. After that figured I'd see how split jerks felt in comparison and quickly worked up to another solid 245. I'm honestly not sure what my best BTN power jerk was, but I know I never hit 245. My best BTN split was I believe either 250 or 255 horribly pressed out in either case. So I'll count that 245 as a legit PR.

First new PR in anything classical lift related in probably 2 years and they came after a session where I felt absolutely beat. Sooo fucking weird. Jerks were typically my biggest weakness of the classic lifts, though they started coming around right before I stopped focusing on weightlifting. So roughly a month back into weightlifting and my jerks (at least the BTN variety) have surpassed where they were previously.

So somehow I'm struggling to front squat 205 for reps and may or may not be able to front squat 250 but I can BTN jerk at least 245. Hey if it translates to me finally progressing in the clean and jerk I'll take it.

Pretty good session.

Snatches didn't feel great at 135 and 152 but both doubles at 162 and 165 felt great. First attempt at 185 was a bit too far out in front, held it overhead for around 2-3 seconds before having to drop it as I was going up on my toes. Second attempt I hit solidly though my catch position felt a little awkward.

Power clean and jerks felt great despite being very tiring.

Squats continue to be the bane of my existence. Both doubles at 250 were tough.

Little post-work midnight jerk session lol.

Tomorrow's workout doesn't have me doing any split jerks and I really don't wanna go too long without doing them as they were a weakness.

That being said 225 was pretty damn solid, no pressing out and was feeling good getting the bar behind me. Seems as though my reintroduction to weightlifting has me picking up where I left off, my snatch is disproportionate to clean and jerk and struggling with cleans. Honestly not sure if I'd be able to clean 225 right now.

Hitting 225 also means that I can jerk 90% of my front squat, probably more as I wasn't exactly fresh for this and based on how squats have felt lately I have a feeling 250 would be questionable. Can't say I ever thought I'd see that happen lol.

Good session.

Was a little worried about overhead squats as previously I could barely struggle through them, but this time they felt much better.

Cleans were quick and easy. Double at 180 was easy and 192 double went way better than expected, throw a jerk in after for the hell of it. Then felt like I hesitated way too long between standing up and jerking the bar, so went again and tried to be more assertive.

Squats were tough, last paused rep at 265 was a grind. Did a paused front squat after just to see how it'd feel. Was pretty tough but I stayed surprisingly very upright through the whole lift.

Muscle snatches were another thrown in thing. Haven't done them in so long wasn't sure what I could hit. Pretty sure my PR there is 135 so just a bit off from that now.

Snatches felt very good, double at 165 and triples at 155 were all fairly easy.

Did a little power jerk testing and for one reason or another nerves started really getting to me. 205 and 210, though the first attempt was a press out, both felt good, I just couldnt get myself to commit at anything higher. Did 215 locked out overhead briefly but it was on a halfassed attempt and so dropped it.

Squats felt a little stronger than usual. Doubles at 265 were tough but not grinders.

Snatches felt slightly harder than they should have.

Cleans felt kinda off as well, though thankfully weren't too difficult. Smacked myself in the dick on the first triple at 180 and that had me being extra cautious. Did a good job of not letting myself hesitant before the jerk, kept it to stand up with the clean then 1, 2 jerk, and all felt really solid.

Definitely strongest front squats have felt since I started doing them. They were still pretty tough but form stayed good; knees didn't cave, elbows stayed up and posture remained upright.

Ended week 5 on a pretty good note.

Snatches felt pretty damn off. Still got the prescribed doubles but I was bumping the bar forward way too much. Made 185 on my first try but wow was it ugly; caught it way in front and had to take a couple steps to save it. First try at 195 was too far in front to save and second I was too slow getting under and it crushed me so I could only hold it overhead a second or so before losing it.

Cleans were much better. All doubles were easy though I did notice that flipping the bar out of the rack position was irritating my left shoulder. 205 wasn't great but felt good enough that I was ok with it.

Jerks felt really good. Really focused on not hesitating and just getting me feet set then going 1,2, jerk. Also finally remembered how to comfortably catch and rerack the bar between reps. Single at 205 felt just ok, subsequent double felt much better. Then double at 215 was even more solid. Couldnt resist try at 230 after and once again hit it very solidly. 100% know I could've hit 240 but got mentally fucked up and didn't even attempt it both times. Really encouraging to be closing in on some actual PR's this soon after getting back into it.

Squats were very tough. Was odd walking 247 out and thinking "I could probably jerk this fresh" then proceeding to struggle through squatting it for 4.
