As I'm re-watching the Jones-Reyes card, watching Shev destroy Chookagian got me thinking that she's clearly the most skilled and technical fighter in WMMA. So I thought I'd put a top 5 as far as skills and technique.

  1. Shevchenko (all around)
  2. JJ/Namajunas (JJ mostly striking & TD)
  3. JJ/Namajunas (Namajunas all around)
  4. Nunes (all around)
  5. Cyborg (all around)
Rousey, Holm, Iron lady are too one dimensional for consideration IMO. Thoughts?

Nunes at 4 is way too low.

she has WAY more finishing power than Joanna and she has more than one way to win, which she demonstrated beating GDR, McMann and Tate on the ground.

I love Val but didn't she lose to Nunes twice?

That's why I said skill & technique. Take power out of the equation, is Nunes better than any of the 3 I put ahead of her?

Yes she did lose razor close decisions. Nunes' size and power will always give her an advantage over Shev. Skill and technique wise though, I got Shev.

Take power and size advantage out and Cyborg doesn't belong anywhere near on your top5 list.

I thought long and hard before putting her on there but couldn't come up with anybody else. When she doesn't fight stupid like she did against Nunes, I don't think there's another fighter who deserves that spot over her.

Have you forgotten who the 115lbs champion is?

The sample size is too small to put Weili in the top 5 IMO. She's very skilled and has great technique. I'd put her at #6.

How can you claim with a straight face Cyborg is more skilled and technical than Weili? Cyborg doesn't even have a single submission win in her career (only a loss by sub), so you can't even say she is more well rounded. Weili has 7 submission wins. This is not even debatable. You probably just forgot Zhang, but don't want to admit it now. It's ok.

Haha...Trust me I didn't forget her. Before I posted, as I was watching the card, they previewed her fight w JJ during the break, and mentioned her 20 fight winning streak w 17 finishes of which 7 are subs. I don't know much about the type of competition she fought prior to the UFC, but in the FIVE fights she's had in the UFC, she really only impressed me in 2. That sub she had in that bloody fight w Aguilar was great but what has Aguilar done since she came over in the big league? The only reason why we haven't seen Cyborg submit anybody is because she hasn't had to. It's like saying that Rumble isn't well rounded because he doesn't have any subs on his record. Again, the sample size is just too small for me to put Weili ahead of Cyborg. I see her training footage and all. Yes she is very skilled and has great technique, but I just haven't seen enough of it in competition.

Yes she did lose razor close decisions.

Only one was razor close

The 2016 fight was a clear victory for Nunes, including a 10-8 round from 2 judges and half the media back when 10-8s were harder to earn

Weili fought cans in china. come on. And she lost to JJ, on anyone but the judges scorecards.

I thought she beat Nunes the second time around, and is overall a far more polished fighter. Skillswise she is number 1.

Nunes is #1 ( skill- technique -power - whatever).

If armageddon was at our doorstep and I could have a half dozen mmartists around me , I might just add her to the crew. Shed be my wonder woman/ supergirl/ buffy ( she may not look like any but she can certainly handle herself like -)

I get your point Sherbro but that's not what the thread is about. I love Mandy and all and she's the GOAT as far as WMMA, BUT as far as pure skills and technique, I still stand by my list.

not enough data yet to even compile a list, most women fighters have one good skill set and background, very few real well rounded ones, they are Rose and Shev, Amanda is the best female fighter but that dont make her the most well rounded. Point being is the whole mma sport is very young, you didnt start seeing the males really start having a mixed game until about 2010, nobody trained their whole life for mma, they either did wrestled, boxed, kickboxed, etc until they were at the top of that sport, realized they had potential and switched over. Women typically dont grow up with fighting aspirations, a few will wrestle, a couple will do Judo and some Mauy Thai or kickbox. In 10 years, yes they will all be well rounded, but its just too young right now
