In most gyms (or schools) in my case, it definitely comes down to genetics. Tons of kids are bigger than me (WAY bigger), yet I have the second highest squats/dl in the school.

Your "argument" is missing a few things like proof that supports your conclusion.

Or you don't lift/eat/sleep enough...Nah, couldn't be that.
 
People with some training background are at advantage then your average joe...

When you get bigger you are not building new muscle cells, just making their size bigger (i.e. hypertrophy). When you are getting strong you are using your sacromeres, muscle spindles, and neuro-muscular junction better.
