Is there a reason that the title is not on the line? I know Silva is old and not likely to win but I thought there has to be a legit reason for the title to not be on the line. If Silva happens to win theres no reason why he shouldnt technically be the champion in my mind unless one of them is not able to make 205. By the way has there been any other fight where the title hasnt been on the line when both guys make weight because I cant think of one that comes to mind.

i guess the champion must be proved in a 5 round fight, no exceptions. the champion always gets 5 rounds, it's unfair if he lost the belt on a 29-28 decision when there are missing rounds. maybe think of it as though they are fighting 3/5ths of a championship fight, so you can't put the entire title on the line.

Not in the UFC, Pride had non title fights all the time.

DC weighing in at 235 right now, balls deep in a bucket of Popeye's. Good on him

There's at least two other threads where this has been discussed in detail.

Ok that makes sense but if thats the reason for it being a non title fight then why didnt they just make it 5 rounds for the title?Otherwise it seems like they intentionally didnt want the title to be on the line for this fight. Do you think SIlva requested 3 rounds due to being out of fighting shape possibly?

Yes... that's exactly the reason.

I answered your question, but now I wish I hadn't.

yep, if silva wants to win a belt, he has to sign up for 5 rounds. obviously he doesn't care about the title, and is smart enough to know that he can't fight a 5 rounder, he could be hungover for all we know. lots of money tho!

Thats all you had to do from the start and it would have been very much appreciated. Sorry there was 2 other threads along with the other endless threads made everyday that I didnt catch on the topic.

Said I didnt see them not that I didnt believe you. lol you really felt the need to post them? haha you're too much.

Are you kidding? I posted them so you could read them.

this is the best dialogue. cracking me up.

it's like a Victorian novel. first a moral rebuke. then an angry riposte. then an admission of resignation. and finally a conciliation.

thanks gents.
