Silva was not GOAT before first Weidman fight and he definitely isn't after 2 decisive losses.

The truth:

Silva almost went out in round 1 and it looked all too easy for Weidman. There is a slowmo shot of Silva going down with his eyes closed. The ending was horrible but make no mistake about it it. Silva was going to lose and lose bad. I think it was his last fight.

Weakest UFC division. Best wins: Hendo (coming off a loss and going down in weight class), Franklin (best win Tanner) and Belfort (his best win but it was one in a million).

Despite all the chit chat, never truly challenged at 205 as he should have.

33-6 record - two decisive finishes, two bad submissions, a few lackluster championship performances.

Top 10 ever? Yes. But he is behind GSP, Shogun, JJ, Aldo, Fedor, Big Nog and a maybe a couple of others.

Finally, after years of brainwash, he fight a worthy unbeaten challenger who destroys him twice.

Just close your eyes and imagine GSP, Aldo or Shogun fighting at 38/39.

You can talk away anyone's accomplishments. GOAT is subjective, and couldn't you find one of the 9999999 other Silva bash threads to post this in?

This exactly! Silva lost a step a long time ago whether haters admit it or not, all the greats lose sooner or later....

He beat the previous MW champ twice, cleared out the entire division, experimented with LHW, embarrassed the former champion, front kick ko'd Vitor, longest title reign in UFC history.

So what if the division was a little weak during his streak; he destroyed every guy they put in front of him(and occasionally some real killers) to the point where he seemed invincible. Every time he stepped in that cage, you knew you're were most likely going to see something magical.

It's a sad day when I of all people have to come to Anderson's defense.

It's true, if a little harsh.

But anytime you string together 16 wins at the top... he's not necessarily the GOAT because he's
the perfect fighter, he's the GOAT because he's accomplished what no one else has or probably will.

This.

UFC GOAT at least due to his streak, clearing out the division, destroying a former champ in another weight class, etc.

MMA GOAT due to casuals who think all of MMA is UFC.

No matter how you put it, it's hard to find find competition for his spot.

I stopped giving you an ounce of credibility after you put him behind Big Nog.

He's definitely one of the three GOAT. This is how my list looks like;

Fedor
Silva
GSP

Behind Big Nog? Really? We all love Minotauro but no way he comes close to Silva. The HW was always the weakest division, and it's not like Nog lost only to Fedor - he lost to Barnett, should have lost to Rizzo as well (instead he lost to Hendo early so I guess that evens out) and has plenty of fights that were either very close or had him in a lot of trouble (Sapp, Kharitonov, Crocop, Sylvia, the last Herring fight). And his prime lasted way shorter than Silva's prime.

Shogun is nowhere close either.

The other champs can compete with Silva for GOAT but really it's a toss up. Silva dominated the MW division for many years and only had one truly challenging fight against Sonnen, up until 2013.

You almost had some credibility, but then mentioned Shogun and Big Nog ahead of him? Smh

Fedor got wrecked 3 times in a row, and yet, with less fights than Anderson and only being in his early-mid 30s, he was past his prime, apparently. He also fought in the weakest division in the history of the sport, and didn't fight a number of elite heavies, once he started fighting high caliber modern day heavies, he got destroyed, and he also got KTFO by a middleweight who Anderson destroyed.

It's easy to shit on anyone. Anderson is still the GOAT in my opinion, a couple of losses at near 40 won't change that.

I always laugh when Fedor fans talk about caliber of competition and his losses to Weidman. Hilarious.

If someone already had Silva as their GOAT, the Weidman fights really don't change that at all. Losing twice to the same fighter at the age of 38 doesn't erase what he already accomplished. What made Silva and Fedor's careers so special is the length of their runs at the top. It's so easy to lose a fight in MMA due to making one small mistake, losing focus for a split second, coming into a fight at less than 100%, simply having an off night, etc. The fact that they stayed on top for so long puts them at no. 1 and no. 2 in my mind.

And they say Anderson's fans are crazy!

You're both insane and out of your minds! I'm speaking to both sides here......the extremists

This thread has great potenial!

TS, IMO you are really off base. You can ask 100 people the GOAT quesiton and get hundred answers, it is subjective. However, you also have to look at the facts and if you look at AS's body of work and conclude anything other than he is at least in the top three your fucking crazy. Behind Big Nog and Shogun, GTFO!

I agree with most of your post. I'd put Anderson behind GSP, Fedor is the clear 1.

Anderson's legacy is helped by the Zuffa machine calling him the greatest every 5 minutes.
