A few drills you might want to try when working on side kicks.
The side kick is one of my favourite techniques, it can be used just as well defensively and offensively. Here we're training the reactions to stop an aggressive opponent. Hit them on the way in for double impact. Time your kicks as your pad holder gets into range. After each side kick you will re-chamber and move back to create space, you should do this all in one movement.
As you improve you can add more pressure by keeping the work up. Don't stop to reset after each kick, keep working to hit and move while your pad holder walks you down.
Finish with a partner stretch to increase your flexibility.
