Is training trapezius muscles beneficial in muay thai? I stopped doing shrugs and upright rows since I started training in thai, because I found my shoulders were tired and stiff. I lost some size and beefiness in my shoulders though.. so I was wondering if throwing in a few sets of shrugs into my workout gonna interfere with boxing, or if it's actually beneficial

Thanks

they are beneficial. don't forget your curls and tricep kick backs

Training heavy upright rows usually develops problems in the shoulders, which you don't want. Shrugs have limited benefits in terms of strength. Push press and high clean pulls are much more beneficial. Don't worry about shoulder and trap size, strengthening the shoulders is very important. As a kickboxer you would benefit greatly from power training (dynamic effort) usings a lighter load lifted as explosively as possible for 5 or less reps per set.

Shut up and deadlift mother fucker. Shrugs need not apply.
