I see stories coming out somewhat frequently about TSA agents abusing their position, stealing things from people's luggage, being remarkably underqualified for the position...etc.

Now I see this story and It makes me think, is the TSA making our flights any safer? I honestly doesn't seem like it IMO. Certainly wasn't the case for this poor individual.

https://pjmedia.com/trending/2016/07/02/disabled-teen-beaten-bloody-by-tsa-agents/

Cliffs:
-Mentally disabled female with brain cancer is on her way back home from treatment in Memphis, Tennessee.
-She sets off a metal detector
-Metal detector disorientates her, leading to her being "uncooperative".
-TSA agents throw her on the ground, cracking her head open.
-"Blood Everywhere" according to the article.

How are the TSA employees involved in this incident not in jail?

:( Very sad story, I fell really bad for them. Poor girl. I don't know how this happened, they couldn't tell she is fucking deaf and blind?!!!

I watched the video of this news report. They took her for further searching and she tried to resist and get away which resulted in them taking her down to restraint her. Unfortunate she was hurt but I'm not sure the TSA overstepped their bounds.

How were they supposed to know she was mentally retarded, deaf and half blind.

As I say in the OP, Remarkably under qualified for the position.

Her mother was trying to tell them, they didn't listen.

It's relatively easy to tell whether someone is mentally disabled, deaf and or blind to people that wouldn't use the term "Mentally retarded"....just saying.

What if there were to be a single security personnel on each flight that was armed, but dressed as just another passenger?

This could be a good job for veterans coming home from oversees hypothetically.

I'd be much more in favor of that, than the way the current set up is situated.

Yeah but vets are the biggest domestic terror threats according to the Obama admin. :D

Them trying to take her off for further searching and her trying to get away probably took a few seconds total. In that small time frame of meeting this person, you could accurately deduce she's blind in one eye, deaf and mentally retarded?

TSA is a bunch of clowns. Literally bottom of the barrel hiring.

Not surprised they assaulted a disabled girl.

You think someone with that condition would be able to walk in a straight line easily?

Also again, her mother told them and continued to tell them, but they didn't listen or didn't care. Someone with those conditions would most likely be carrying some kind of paperwork too that could've enlightened all of the TSA agents involved.

But back to the real question, does the TSA make our flights any safer?

You're making assumptions now. Also, a family member frantically trying to get to the person taken for further searching is probably not uncommon and it's possible they just thought the mom was panicking. I doubt she was able to explain everything to them in the short amount of time.

No, i'm not assuming. I work with vulnerable adults and I know people that are living with cancer. This woman was coming back from cancer treatment in Memphis. She would absolutely have paper work from her treatment facility and more for any meds she may have been prescribed on top of more than likely having paperwork describing her diagnosis and conditions resulting from the cancer. I say more than likely, because its always possible that someone could forget it or misplace it.

Perhaps if they were better trained/qualified they would have taken more time to evaluate the situation....and known how to properly restrain someone without cracking their head open.

If you want a better TSA then you'll have to allocate more money towards it.

Possibly more taxes in that area. Then the complainers will be out in full effect yelling why they have to pay taxes.

TSA isn't perfect but it's better than the alternative, which is nothing.

You're assuming she would have the paperwork out and ready to show them at the time. I'm guessing that she didn't and seeing how busy airports are, the agents have to be quick about processing people.

Also, her busting her head open is more likely due to her flailing. I'm not saying the TSA couldn't have roughed her up (or that the TSA is even valuable), but I've seen many videos of police or some sort of authority trying to restrain someone and that someone being hurt due to their resisting. If someone is resisting and trying to get away and you have to restrain them, it's very hard to do so without being a little rough.

I want a smaller and better trained TSA
