M-1's new event will feature a round of real, live Knight Fighting... the most brutal
form of combat ever as two men suit up in combat armer and arms.

Should the UFC follow suit to keep up?

It's the ultimate evolution of the sport.

UFC tried to resist WMMA and look what happened. It can't be stopped.

Neither can knight fighting. The sooner the UFC accepts it, the better. Otherwise, M-1 might have a tombstone in their office with UFC written on it.

One of the guys is an actual champ that just won his title. They have real competition, it's not an exhibition match...

Apparently so!

I love how the rules, weapon selection, and bluntness of the swords make it a much better strategy to smash the other guy's face continuously with the shield or the pommel, rather than trying to use the weapon as a sword.

I know that's a solid historical use of those implements, but surely not to this extent.

I love how the ref is in the jester garb....

I see this fighting as a means to mitigate Jon Jones huge reach advantage

In one way HOLY SHIT THIS IS AWESOME. Love me some medieval shit.

In the other this is terrible.

I think it highlights the birth of Jiu Jitsu.

its basically like watching paintball, the weapons are meant to kill but cant so we get this.. .

I opened this expecting to hear about some prospect named Knight trying to go big time.

Kinda glad I was wrong, this is delightfully terrible...

Yeah, it's like you can tell there should be SOMETHING cool about this...but they can't quite find a way to simulate actual bladed combat in a sport form. I also subscribe to this Youtube channel hoping they figure it out...

Silly...

Fighting as a one-on-one sport is fine.

Gimmicking it with:

Weapons (M1 Medieval)
Teams (TFC)
Armwrestling (X-Arm)
Chess (Chessboxing)

I don't think anyone will really take it seriously.
