If WME wants UFC to go global and be on par with the other major sports, they're going to have to have some sort of regular scheduling. There can't be periods of time with no cards. There needs to be something going on every week. But that got me thinking. Should there be an offseason for UFC like there are with other sports? Like several months of the year with no cards so the fighters can heal and get better. Also it would give us a break. Spend too much time on Sherdog? An offseason would force us to spend time focusing on other things besides MMA. I think this is an ingenius idea. What say you?

If there was an off season most fighters would only fight once a year due to recovery from injuries between fights and if fights get called off some fighters would end up not fighting at all.

There would be 0 financial incentive

I don't know. I was watching PFL and I kind of like how they're doing things differently. An offseason would allow for seasons. And yearly awards. And champions who can't defend twice a year have to relinquish their belt. I'm brainstorming as I go along.

Damn @West Linn, I usually like your posting, but why would this sport have one? Having a smaller card isn’t hurting anyone. Come on mang

Yes I think so because it would allow them to put out more quality cards and events. The way I see it is if people and viewers are able to "consume" mma content on a regular basis all year round then it gets treated with less value. If the fans and by that I mean mostly casuals know that there will only be say 4 - 8 months of the year where they will be able to watch the highest level of mma in the world then they will be more entrenched in every single fight from the first fight of the early prelims up to the main event. Think of It kind of like Fifa being every four years, when it's on people take time off work, they get together, television programming is rearranged to cater to it, and it's just an all around huge global event. I'm not saying it will as big as that but this would be a start. During these "off seasons" would probably be the best time to put on the amatuer level event and giving them exposure which enthusiasts and casuals alike will watch in the look out for good fights and future prospects.

With all that being said, all this would be well and good but we have to remember that if WME a company based on entertainment wants to continue turning mma into entertainment and not a serious and respectable sport then we are all doomed

I would like there to be less events, but I would not want an off season. I like the old days when there were less PPV's, but when they did have them they were stacked with star fighters. Now you get 1-4 good/great fights per PPV and the rest of the guys most have never heard of. Those guys are good to see on the free shows, not when your shelling out $65.00 for an event. For years I used to get EVERY PPV, but now I only get 6-7 a year because some shows have no star power.
