In light of this past weekends UFC event which had some questionable refereeing and judging through out the card is it time for a commissioning body for just MMA... Has the sport grown/big enough now to branch off from other commissions have there own, to help combat these issues...a body of ex fighters, refs, rule makers, drug testers to help balance out the sport for the better that will hold the power over promotions .I am not talking a fighters union im talking about a governing council of the entire sport... That would handle the following. Training and placement of Referees and Judges for the sole purpose of MMA combat..no boxing, tkd, wrestling judges coming to watch/ref/judge a MMA fight..but legit MMA judges/refs who only trained for and are used for MMA. Fighter licenses and drug testing Rule changes/fixes Weight cutting/divisional rules Anti corruption investigations and complaints made from fighters/coaches against promotions All promotions must run through this commission and operate under there rules not the individual promotions business practices. Fighter compensation disputes ( with held pay..not receiving bonuses) Fight result appeals (disputes over stoppages or poor judging to be handle in a court/tribunal type setting) MODS CAN WE GET A POLL GOING? What are your thought sherbros? Mix Martial Arts Council ( commission)
Solid idea, would fix a lot of obvious issues. Likely not gonna happen tho, criminal control of SAC's would fight it tooth and nail.
Was thinking something similar after last night. The governing body really needs a governing body. When my wife asked me who controls the commission to fix these things I fell silent. That's the issue. No body governing the governing body.
Well i guess it would comedown to getting a lead promotion to make the jump.. One fc, bellator, ufc, pfl..someone
I think so. The problem is, try telling the government they're doing something wrong and see how that works out for you.
Well this would be an international governing body like the Olympics ..they tell governments all the time there wrong lol
Exactly..this sport is in a dangerous spot right now and needs solid framework to continue to strive and grow for the better.. I think this could really help it...
