Should the UFC eliminate the 185lb division & merge it with LHW?

Champion : Robert Whittaker
1 Yoel Romero
2 Jacare Souza
3 Luke Rockhold
4 Chris Weidman
5 Kelvin Gastelum
6 Michael Bisping
7 Derek Brunson
8 David Branch
9 Vitor Belfort
10 Brad Tavares
11 Uriah Hall
12 Lyoto Machida
13 Thiago Santos
14 Antonio Carlos Junior
15 Paulo Costa

^^ As per their website. Rockhold & Uriah Hall are both moving up to LHW & Souza, Bisping, Belfort & Machida are either retired or 1 fight away from retirement. Couple that with the fact that Gastelum looks like a natural 170lber, there's only 7 legit 185lbers in the top 15 of the division & it's a similar situation at LHW, i think they should just merge 185 + 205 at this point.

- Eliminate all weight classes and rounds
- Allow soccer kicks and stomps and knees to a downed opponent
- Fight until there is one winner
- All elbows are legal including 12-6
- The canvas should be a glass over a pool with sharks beneath, and the sharks should have freakin laser beams attached to them
- Yellow cards for 10 seconds of inactivity (no punching or passing) while on the ground

Both are terrible divisions with aging fighters throughout the top ten and not a lot of new talent emerging up the ranks fast enough. A merger really wouldn't be a bad idea

Agreed with all except the eliminate all weight classes. I would prefer openweight, 180 pounds (no weight cutting) and 150 points (no weight cutting).

Almost perfect. You forgot one thing:

- Merge men and woman MMA (with no weigh classes obviously)

Wmma can be its own thing in Invicta, in the UFC it’s all about fighting with sharks with freaking laser beams beneath you.

Ok ok, let it be. Sharks with freaking laser beams and girls to Invicta. Calling Dana right now.

Fuck no.

The UFC should rework the divisions and add a "Cruiser Weight".

Your solution would have guys like Kelvin fighting at 205.

As long as they merge the FLW, and WFW divisions. Because, I believe MM would whoop Cyborg’s ass.

So you want a gap from 170lbs to 205lbs?

Yes, there isn't enough talent currently at 185 or 205. I actually want a 165 & 175 division, guys like Kelvin can make 175 for sure.

What about when new talent comes along in the 185 and 205 divisions? That will happen. Can’t collapse weight classes every time a generation of fighters gets old and/or retires.

I'm not sure how it should be done but I think there is only enough talent for two divisions between MW, LHW and HW.

the UFC is a sinking ship, they barely have any stars left, all the stars are little girls who refuse to fight, this is in general a bad time for MMA, MMA peaked in the 2000s, from 2000-2012 MMA was epic and i loved every minute of it, lately not as much.

So your solution for a shallower division is just to delete it entirely

Brilliant suggestion

I am inclined to agree. The UFC has gotten fat and stupid. Many of their fighters are getting demanding and entitled. Every time your turn around, it's another mistep. Whether it is Conor nonsense, shit like the Reebok deal and nearly every fight has a big cancellation. Plus, there isn't really any star power left. Both due to lack of fighters with personality and an inability of UFC brass to market them. Take Stipe for example, a dominant MMA champion who is also an active duty fireman should be solid marketing gold, yet is completely unknown outside of MMA fandom.

This is an old argument, but one that seems to hold more water with every passing year. Pride's downfall really hurt MMA. It was both a spectacle with legendary fighters and a direct competitor to the UFC to keep Zuffa on it's toes. Without Pride, the UFC hasn't had to compete with anyone and the results are now becoming apparent.

Typical stupid Shertard post. This is a mature sport now, they aren't eliminating weight classes arbitrarily like that. Get real.
