Should Rountree start ultra aggressive, try to wrestle or just use his usual gameplan?

Considering who is Pereira´s training partner/coach or whatever, Texeira, his wrestling is probably on par or better than Rountree´s, aggresive start might do it, punchers chance with fast hands being thrown around, being too technical with a guy that good on his feet isnt a good idea.

It's the same logic as 'just defend takedowns'.

'Just suddenly be a good wrestler'.
People are accepting Poatan has the advantage in the striking

That doesn't immediately mean Khalil has some major advantage in the grappling when he's predominantly a striker himself

Sherdog:
Why doesn't a fighter just do a thing that needs years of hard work and dedication to pull off?

Real life is not a videogame, you are not gonna "Just" do something you never done before or are not good at, just because it would be the most effective thing on paper.

Just go spar once please and see how "easy" it is to implement a gameplan.
You mean trinity and morpheus can't plug him into the matrix, boot up a wrestling cartridge and he learns grappling in the blink of an eye?

Personally I would like to see him try to take Poatan down and not just to open Poatan defence, really try to make something happen on the ground. I think if he mixes it up so he can create openings on the feet it's gonna go horribly for him. Poatan is not gonna be terriified of his grappling and just drop his hands.

I would think just go full Gracie is his best shot followed by just going super aggro and try to take Poatan head off from the start. Doing his usual thing, even if mixed with a takedown attemp here and there seems destined to failure....

What do you guys think?
I would like to see him wrestle and flex his ground game -- he has been working with Nicky Rod a lot I've seen, so it'd be nice to see that wrinkle of his game. Even if he doesn't get a takedown, it should at least open up some offense on the feet if he gets Poatan thinking about the takedown.

he should try to tire him out before getting aggressive. tie him up, take him down, and get his heart rate up. all of that is banking on khalil’s gas tank being bigger than alex’s, which i’m not so sure about.

Going agressive is a left hook knock out. He gotta be at his best. No particular strategy, just feel the moment.

In Rountree's 15 UFC fights, he has never attempted one single takedown. I don't expect that to change in this fight.

Never payed much attention to Khalil outside the cage but DeSean Strickland is right the dude is a full blown Libtard.

If you think Alex's takedown, and grappling defense is still bad. I imagine Khalil's offensive wrestling and grappling is probably just as bad. There's a reason he absolutely never uses it.
Alex spends all day with Glover pushing him in ground sessions. I highly doubt Khalil has anything to surprise him with there.

personally I feel that khalil would benefit from feinting takedowns, possibly even grabbing a leg only to let it go. just to keep Alex honest. this would open up his striking options more.

Wrestling isnt an option based on what we've seen so far.

A technical drawn out striking match likely gets him caught fairly quickly.

A firefight probably gets him caught even quicker, but its also his best chance of landing something big. So thats the approach i'd go for. Roll the dice and make Poatan walk through fire.

He's been asking for this fight forever, I expect serious violence and effort on both ends

From what I remember, Rountree got most of his finishes by holding the center of the octagon and pushing the action. He's got a puncher's chance against Alex so he has to bite down on his mouthguard and get into exchanges from the start before they establish a rhythm.
I see this fight as a horrendous mismatch, I hope I am dead wrong.

I also think that if Khalil is passive he ends up getting KTFO 98%. At least if he comes with controlled aggression he's got a chance. I also feel like Khalil has more options in close than he does at distance.

Responsible defense, and aggression in close/against the cage. All out, or all in...at mid range, it's no good for him IMO.

Rountree can KTFO anybody on the planet, dude has nasty fucking power.

Just go for it, probably end up unconcious but Poatan is not invulnerable, has a good punchers chance imo.

I say go for it sooner rather than later. Poatan can be knocked out and Rohndtree has power. The longer he waits and trys to be technical the lower his chances are

Wrestling didn't get him to where he is, it was his striking and power. His best strategy is stick to what he's good at look for openings. Not get too aggressive early, read the fight and find the openings.

watch him pull off the huge upset, but on paper he doesn't have any way to win. i'm just hoping he doesn't get highlight reel KOed.
He has a clear path to victory... dude has a lot of power and Pereira most likely will not wrestle.
