Law enforcement and other groups have been calling for open carry to be suspended, at least temporarily, and it is making things much more difficult. This would probably be marginally constitutional, particularly at state constitutional levels.

Yes or no???

The event is shaping up to look like Altamont. I think it should.

A ban on open carry would have prevented these shootings?

I'm skeptical...

NO

We aren't in a Civil War. Infringing on our rights for such incidents is a gross overreaction . We aren't Turkey. People are blowing these incidents way out of proportion.

If by that you mean increased to granted to everyone, then yes.

Open carry where and when? Is it just for political conventions?

Not sure, just that Cleveland police union are asking for it given the coming republican convention

Should governor kasich respond for sake of officer safety? He has said it would violate state constitution

Open carry is a state right, not a federal constitutional one. Even with the new 2a cases that isn't going to change.

You also can't require private establishments to be forced to allow guns in. So it's completely up to them on that front.

We actually prohibit it (handguns too) here in Florida.

It was requested for the convention.
I personally don't get why anyone would show up with a gun to something like this but that guy in Dallas went to a protest carrying a rifle... There's a fear that someone will take advantage of open carry law and shot at people at the convention, I can totally understand that fear.

I'm pretty pro gun and I think open carry is pretty dumb.

I've seen reports that the black panthers plan on protesting there armed, and I've also seen reports that bikers planned on going there to be on the other side of the fence.

I can understand the concern over such a cocktail considering the other trump protests where they go and deliberately try to agitate and provoke.

But, not sure what a suspension of open carry really means in terms of precedence and what kind of power they have to do such a thing.

Absolutely not.

Plus, it will just radicalize the right wing as well. Then officers will have to be scanning crowds for both left and right-wing extremists.

WHAT?!!?!?!?

ARE YOU SERIOUS!?!?

It is my God-given right, passed down on a holy document, written by a feather dipped in INK!!! That I can carry a weapon capable of shooting down low-flying aircraft!!!!

No, open carry is a right.

The anxiety of others doesn't void your individual rights.

Keep it but Cops should not have to even think for a split second if a person is legally holding a gun. Too risky.

Yes, I saw that too. It could be a disaster tbh.
