Should MMA fans be mad at McGregor's trash-talk and antics ?

Following McGregor's loss, there's been a lot of reactions along the lines of : "I am glad to see this trash-talker get some humble pie / reality check."

However, is McGregor's trashtalk and bad antics really a bad thing ?

McGregor's aggressive promotion style allowed :

  • More interest in MMA in general.
  • Fans to give a fuck about the UFC's featherweight division.
  • Conor McGregor became a multi-millionaire.
  • Allowed fighters like Chad Mendes, Jose Aldo, and Nate Diaz to make millions of dollars they otherwise would not have dreamed of.

All in all, Conor's trashtalk brought nothing but added value.

Those bothered by a fighter implying other fighters are less skilled than him, are bums, etc. should try being less sensitive, and maybe have their vaginas examined.

Like I said before... Trash Talk all ya want, but remember.... Don't lose or it comes back at you 1000 Fold.

Yes, calling so many other fighters "pussy" really irritates me.

Mad? Probably not. Annoyed? Certainly

I enjoy his trashtalk, outside of him going full retard, like saying he was going to choke Nate out on the ground.

I think a lot of people are angry because they bought all of Conor's hyperbole about how he was "willing to die", how he was an "animal", and so on and so forth...

...then when a guy on 11 days notice stood up to him, all the tough talk fell away and he folded like a deckchair.

People feel deceived/cheated by an Irish snake oil salesman.

To be fair, I am less annoyed by Conor than Sonnen.

no, they should appreciate him for taking the sport over the threshold and helping it become mainstream in only 3 years of being in the UFC

Only women let things like emotions take control of themselves and their actions. Don't get mad son!

His trash talk is fine. His fans trash talk is where i want heads to roll.

Conor isn't in it to improve fighter's pay, he's merely looking out for himself, which in itself I have no problem with, but I do have a problem with the notion that fighters have to be somehow grateful to Conor 'giving' them money fights. The reverse holds just as much true, he wouldn't even have been paid if Nate hadn't decided to show up at the last moment and kick his ass.

Fact is that Conor has been extremely disrespectful towards a lot of fighters that have more than paid their dues. Grabbing Aldo's belt, talking smack about RDA's heritage and children are extremely disrespectful things to do. Same as bullying Poirier around every time they were in the same room. You can't just say whatever the fuck you want before a fight and then hide behin d the 'oh, I was just hyping up the fight I didn't mean any of it lol' card. Being insincere for money isn't exactly something to get a pat on the back for.

When you talk a big game you better be able to back up all that talk up or risk looking like a dbag.

Hardcore MMA fans don't care if the sport s mainstream or not, the just watch MMA for the fights, not the trash talk, money talk, etc...

The only people who are grateful for McTappa is the casuals. The rest will continue to live with or without the help of mainstream media.

hardcore fans dont care if the sport becomes more popular? a sport becoming "mainstream" isnt just about media coverage..... its about its overall popularity growing. which increases revenue, which increases fighter pay etc

so while you may be correct, maybe if the hardcore fans did care..... the sport wouldve become far more popular a lot sooner than it has
