First of all, I would like to tell you guys I am 185cm(6'1?) , walk around at 70/71kg( 155 pounds?) and 17 years old. For my first fight I already cut my weight to try and make 64kg. I did this in around 2 weeks. I am not fat. I find cutting weight to be extremely hard, and sometimes I wonder if its really worth it to run so much and eat so little just to cut weight. My mother is someone that keeps on pestering me about it too. there hasn't been a single day she kept quiet about what im eating ( or lack of).

Im stuck in the middle, the next weight class is at 69kg, and i heard there are many hard hitters there. But I dont think I ever want to cut so much weight again. I dont have any professional trainers beside me 24/7, i only made it partly due to the internet but mostly just my dedication. I see some ppl only cutting 3, 4 kg, and I dont get the point of me training with less than 60% strength all the time. i think after my match i will eat until i am the same weight again. What should I do? I dont want to quit boxing...

edit; Boxing is supposed to be fun, but these days I cant really tell if I like it anymore. Cutting weight is just depressing. On a sidenote, how much do you guys cut?

just box in 69 kg weight class.

^That. If they have hard hitters, keep practicing and training. Use techniques to overcome their power.

you shouldn't be cutting so much weight at your age. You should just box at the higher weight class. Listen to your mom.

Listen to your mom.

I find the more I lean and the wiser I get the more I find this to be true. All the stuff I thought I knew turned out to be wrong :p Common sense is the best measure for most things.

Man i am 185 cm and fight at 80 kg. 70 kg are great for you're height.
And weight cutting is not really healthy, specially in your age. I would sy stay at 70.
And why should you stop boxing? You didn't fight once at 70 kg, give at a try. And don't drive yourself crazy about your weight and the fun will come back.

Didn't you make another thread in the S&C forum about this the other day?

Do starting strength and gain some muscle mass.

skills pay the bills after all. I cant say I have experience with weight cutting because I box at shw at 6 foot 5 and 214 lbs, but most often my opponents are in the 230s-260s range and I have never had a problem feeling someone was "too strong" or hit too hard or something. You wanna feel strong and at your best in the ring, dont have the gay mma mentality of cutting weight

^this guy

Victor Ortiz : weigh at 147 , fight at 165+

Gatti : rehydrate 25lbs .....as a light(er) weight.

Margarito : rehydrate 16-17lbs at Welterweight.

Joshua Clottey : rehydrate 22lbs at Welterweight.

Gay mma ?
Hardcore , broski ......hardcore !

As for TS , you're doing it wrong.
You shouldn't be cutting 15lbs in just two weeks with same day weigh ins.

Don't cut , LOOSE weight by dieting / calorie restriction and body fat reduction.
You should be only cutting 3-5lbs the week of and 2-3lbs (or less) the day of the weigh ins.

Go to 69kg first and then from there go to 141lbs.

As for worrying about hard hitters at 69kg while weighing 70+ yourself......I hear ballet / golf rarely has that problem.

You do, in fact, have a coach correct? I would ask my coach about weight cutting and if it's necessary. Just because so and so is in a weight class, is not a reason to not box in that weight class because in the match-making process you make the fights that are good for you. Like Kellbrook I have no experience cutting weight sorry.

Cutting weight is always horrible, doing so in two weeks is just plain torture. What I used to do is as soon as I find out the weight restriction, I already start cutting. Plus I always used to maintain a weight very close to my competition weight so it's not as bad.

To be honest, the weight cut is one of the reasons I stopped competing. It came to a point when my family and friends were saying, "Jesus fucking Christ, stop torturing yourself and have a goddamn cookie!":icon_chee

Every one here is right.. Don't cut weight... Its a mature boxing... Its basically a hard sparring session. Get in there and have some fun.

You don't get a lion to cut weight to fight ally cats.

The most dramatic examples you can find are still half that of the likes of tibau, anthony johnson etc

Fight at 69kg especially with same day weigh ins weight cutting should be kept to a minimum

just box in 69 kg weight class.

this...

unless you have high aspirations to go pro and you believe you can be uber successful...

with your height, i think the 69kg is just fine...

how tall are the other fighters usually in that weight class???

Just focus on becoming a better boxer.
do what it takes to improve your boxing.
dont focus on match results or records.
If you think your likely to get knocked out, dont compete at all.

You are 19, and still developing your body and learning to box.

Its better to be a late bloomer than an early burnout.

focus on TECHNIQUE, protect your head, and dont wear out your body.

If you dont have what it takes to go pro now, dont rush it.

Fucking yourself up for competitions sake is simply not worth it.

If you LIKE boxing, you can do it for the rest of your life without serious consequence, or you can fuck it up for urself getting knocked out while cutting weight and fucking your body up over training.

Cutting weight and and maintaining peak physical fitness will fuck you up regardless. And each time you get rocked, your brain takes damage that, including other things, makes you easier to get knocked out next time.

This remains true even if you want to go pro. TIME YOUR RUN. Manage your injuries and focus on technique. You can optimise the rest later. Life is a marathon, not a sprint, and if you fuck yourself up at the start, your not gonna be able to finish hard.

p.s. the repeated use of the words "fuck yourself up" is deliberate. Dont fuck shit up for yourself. Technique. Technique. Technique. ESPECIALLY defensive technique.
