Okay guys a whats your take about my sparring days..the guys I sparr with are way taller than me except for one dude who only comes tuesdays...for a fact I know that the taller guys have that advantage and im always getting hit ALWAYS when going in to land my shots should I be smart and only come tuesdays when the guy my height comes because these taller dudes man ! I know getting hit is part learning but how is it fair to me when these guys clearly have an huge reach advantage compared to me im 5'2 ...the guys average size in sparring is like 5'8 and up ...what would you guys think Is the smart thing to do? I do really want to learn how to properly move and box

Its not an advatage necessarily.

If you think about it.. you have the advantage. You see tall fighters believe they have to fight acshort guy one way... which is to use ones and twos and keep the distance... they also believe you have to fight them one way.. go forward.

Why not circle him? You will be surprised how quickly the reach is negated.
Or better yet. Let him come forward... see if he is as comfortable with having to reach.. try to make him over extend.

So many options, fight smart.

No..

and here's why... Im a short guy too btw.. Basically, I learned to box facing guys my height mostly.. I learned a lot of cute tactics and counters that work well when you have the ability to draw a fighter to you..the reality is though, that I was the short guy most of the time in my weight class..and I would have been better served to work on my workrate, head movement, and most importantly... foot work!!!!!!!!!!!!!! while pursuing.. I had great footwork while being pursued.. but footwork while pursuing was a bitch for me.. and to be honest.. I never was great at it.. I should have sharpened my skills against guys that would make me chase and dip and dodge and work.. it was a missed opportunity.. take advantage of the good situation you got there man..

Defense , defense, defense!!! Learn how to slip (within an inch of contact), block then roll while walking into your range to "touch" your opponent. body, body, head. then repeat over again. you will frustrate your opponent until he starts trying stuff to get to you that's more risky then he'll open himself to some nice counters. Take your time and you start to chop him down. No reason to get hit while outside range if you're moving your head. Step right, step left then touch the body with anger.
