My girlfriend wants to go to a resort in Mexico (Yucatan Peninsula) in late August. This is hurricane season. Should I be very concerned about this? We don't have much flexibility with our vacation time, other wise we'd just go at a different time. Anyone have much experience with this?

It'd be pretty badass to survive a hurricane bro. That's like a 6 page thread right there

hurricanes dont come every week or even every month man, I live in florida.... basically there is nothing you can do to prepare but pray to the gods of the skies that a hurricane doesnt come exactly on those days and exactly on that place. If it comes shit you are screwed, but as I said hurricane season doesnt mean a hurricanes are always there or that they are strong, categories 1 and 2 you are pretty safe, from category 3 on shit run away dude

Statistically unlikely that you'd get a powerful storm but any foul weather would suck all the fun out of a tropical vacation. ie no boating, fishing, diving, beach.

Check the storm history here http://csc.noaa.gov/hurricanes/#

It's not likely that you'll get hit with a hurricane the exact week you're down there, but I'd book trip insurance just in case. I've been a few times during the summer and never had any problems, though.

Nah most likely nothing will happen. I've lived in FL since 2006 and we've barely had anything.Sounds crazier than it is.

I've lived in Texas and taken tropical vacations in the height of storm season. Just go it is unlikely to hit while you are there.

National Hurricane Center website is your friend.

if he gets sherdog fame for surviving a shitty hurricane, then me and the rest of the NY sherdoggers should be heroes for surviving sandy and its aftermath of no power or heat for 2 weeks...

im just say bro

Sandy and Katrina survivor here. I'll now be expecting a bump to mod, or at the very least a free platinum account.

Naw, man... Just don't drink the water, know the word Banjo and enjoy the shit out of yourself...

Yeah we haven't had anything hit too hard since 04. Having lived in Florida for my 22 years of existence. . I can tell you the infrastructure here is pretty well catered to hurricanes so usually the worst of it is your home's roof gets damaged a little bit and depending on where you are on the power grid, you will be sweating balls for a few days. . . or 17 days if you're the last house on your grid, as mine is :P.

If you do happen to get hit by a cat 1-2 or even a 3 and you are unlucky enough to get hit directly. . . You should totally go outside when you're within the eye. . . It's eerie, but totally awesome. Last time Hurricanes hit my area I was sitting on my porch watching it most of the time.
