Instead of weak punishments of 5 minute majors for both players. They should kick them out of them game and also and added suspension as well.

What do you guys think?

Update: Just to let you know I'm not for banning hockey, just asking the question and see what the poll results will be like.

Fighting has been a part of hockey since its inception, why in the fuck should they ban it sir?

Just asking for the sake of asking. lol

I agree with what you say, it's also an integral part of the game. It can change the momentum of game if your teammate wins the fight. Boosts up the morale, so yeah I always love a good hockey fight.

Im gonna be honest, I don't like hockey but I know people that love it.
I remember when they tried to cut down on the fighting and my friends lost their shit about it.

Then they explained why fighting was a necessary part of hockey, and I was pretty shocked that they had a real reason.

I just liked watching people fight.
That's probably why I watched Boxing, kickboxing, and MMA lol.

Yes. It's an absolutely pointless side show. It's an element of the game, that is just waiting to cast a dark shadow over the entire sport, when somebody inevitably cracks their skull on the ice and doesn't wake up. Then, in a sea of negative press, they'll be all "Aww geez, I guess we should take that out of the game, 'eh?". Just do it now, before disaster strikes. 99% of hockey fights aren't even entertaining anyways. They grab each other and fling each other around, while throwing some awkward punches that barely land half the time, before a ref steps in and breaks up their dance.

And no, there is no justification for it, like it's an equalizer for cheap shots. No other sport allows you to just beat the shit out of a player that's pissing you off, without a threat of serious, potentially career altering consequences, and that's the way it should be.

How many star players would be injured without any real repercussions towards players causing the injury?

How many young talents/rookies will be roughed up even worse now?
What is the repercussion? A meaningless ten second „fight“ in which players fight more with their jerseys than anything else, a few shots to the helmet? Like mentioned already, the fights are a joke like 98% of the time.

I don’t think any of the players who constantly try to head hunt are afraid of such fights tbh.

Have they put out stats how long star players are out when they get roughed up now days versus say 80's?

Take Perry/Tavares situation. Horrible injury but an accidental one. Then Foligno fights Perry so Leafs are fired up and able to keep playing well. Grown men cant deal with an injury so naturally lets possibly give another player some brain damage. Which is what happened since Perry didnt fight back and was punched in the head few times. Granted rare thing to happen and Foligno's punches werent Prime Hunt ones.

Wilson maybe?

Well, if it's all legal, there shouldn't be repercussions. If it's illegal, the player in question is usually suspended for it. Lengthy suspension if it's really bad. A 30 second dance tussle is not some grand equalizer, that keeps dirty players in check. It's not even like they have to fight scary goons anymore.

Probably the same amount as any other physical sport, that doesn't have fighting. The sport will not collapse, and players like McDavid, Crosby, Matthews and the like, won't all of a sudden start getting carried out on stretchers, because fighting doesn't exist anymore.

So what about when little old Paul Byron scores on an empty net goal with 1 fucking second on the clock and gets a full on 110% charging head hunting hit...Did i mention there was literally 1 second left????

his teammates just go back to the dressing room like nothing happened because games over now?

How often do those happen these days?
Anyway how about the league starts throwing the book at players who do what you just say? Lets start with 30 regular season games and 7 playoff games (and yoff ban stays until the team you are in makes it to playoffs).

Also as mentioned these days fights are mostly after clean and hard hits, not even actual fights just players dropping gloves and getting penalties, hurting your chances of winning the game.

Its not the 70's and 80's anymore and besides i am willing to bet there are less and less dirty hits that you mentioned than in the past so no need for brawlers is there? Apart from Crosby what other star player has missed games due to concussion? Cant think of any.

Most of us real men can handle a hockey fight without crying.

in leagues where fighting is banned, there is way more cheap dirty shit that goes on. Fighting is part of the “code”.
