Should boot camp be mandatory for all 18 yr old males? Not military service, just boot camp

I think it's a great idea to make boot camp mandatory for every US male when they are 18. They don't necessarily have to continue on into the military if they choose not to. But the boot camp experience should be mandatory. Mainly for discipline, and you definitely will get that, but you also learn just a hell of a lot in boot camp. You also learn a lot about yourself, and you learn that you can endure more and push yourself further than you ever thought you could. That is valuable knowledge for life. Plus the discipline and everything else you learn, is a valuable life skill.

I definitely think this should be made mandatory. I guess the logistics of it would have to be worked out. Like should people be able to decide which branch's boot camp they go to? Since it would be mandatory, I don't think it's a good idea to force anybody to go to like marine boot camp, unless they choose to. That would fuck a lot of people up in the head. But Army boot, Air Force basic, Navy boot, those would be fine. Idk, I'm just spitballing. But I really like the concept.

What do you think?

You have any fucking idea how much that would cost, and the size of the additional BT bases that would have to be built to accompany every 18 year old male within the entire United States?

And what would the point be? Just to toughen them up? And it costs $15,000 to get a single soldier through BT... well... It was that much 13 years ago when I went through it.

Yes, I would have appreciated it. Senior year of HS I got senioritis and got fat. College I gain freshmen 50lbs.

I would like extended boot camp, then infantry school, I think be pretty cool. I think that should be mandatory. That way we have pool of ready to go infantry in case.

I did join ROTC, but I did not stick with it because you have to wake up to early.

Good point.

Imo the point would be to over time, improve American society. Yes it would toughen people up, and give them discipline and life skills. But that could over time decrease crime rates, for example. idk it's a good question and I haven't given it that much thought yet.

They dont have to live in barracks or get free food. It will just be extended gym class with more obstacle course running. Most colleges already have ROTC anyways, recreational facilities. You just need drill instructors to yell at people.

Take it from me - the pussies that entered BT and graduated, left as pussies that graduated BT.

All BT teaches people to do, is how to get yelled at, clean shit repeatedly, march, get yelled at some more, learn how to do pushups&situps&run, the proper manners when showering with other males, get yelled at even more, take orders without any questions, and by the end you're a certified lemming.

Oh, did I mention you get yelled at alot? Yeah, there's a shitton of yelling.

Or they can offer them in Highschool. An hour of APFT every afternoon and squad formations every saturday.

Good way to kill off a bunch of obese high school graduates.

We had this system before; a year in hs & the 1st 2 years of college/uni. 2 years after I finished ROTC, they abolished it and the pussification began.

Let me tell you, when I lived in college dorms, they had buffet as the cafeteria. It was a fucking buffet. There were four main dorm complexes and they all had buffets for lunch and dinner. On the weekends, it was brunch buffet.

LOL the fuck do college kids need buffet for every meal every day for? They mostly just sit in class, surf internet, and drink beer which is just more carbs.

Yeh they work out, but you can only work out so much.

*Facepalm*

You know why soldiers aren't allowed to leave the base during BT? Because There's little chance they'd come back.

So BT being 9am-5pm isn't possible.

I could write a fucking book about my own experience at Ft.Knox... oh by the way, most movie BT sequence's in movies like Stripes and Full Metal Jacket that were filmed at Ft.Knox love to show soldiers on obstacle courses over and over again.

Guess how much time my BT company spent on the obstacle course.

Two hours, and that was because a field trip of Boy Scouts were being fed their propaganda from elementary school. Had to say to those kid "See? Basic Training is fun! It looks like fun, doesn't it kids? Just like a playground! What are you gonna do after high school?" "JOIN THE ARMY!!!"

Jesus Fucking Christ we couldn't say shit to those kids. Hope none of those kids fell for the bullshit and signed up.

Anyway, as I mentioned I could write a fucking book. Better stop writing in this thread or else I'll be typing in this thread until the sun comes up.

I'm in favor of universal conscription anyways, so.....

I think what the TS is recommending is some form of mandatory physical training. It does not have to be exactly like your boot camp. It can be one that fits the civilian schedule better.

Absolutely not. Not everyone in high school is fat and lazy.

I would've hated boot camp. Not my thing. Getting yelled at all day for no reason whatsoever. Fuck that, I played sport we got yelled at plenty.

That would give the state too much power 'over' the people. It would also create a military mindset in the populous that would not serve well in a civil society for a myriad of reasons. Humans already have an overabundance of a culture of competition and conflict and we could use some more exposure to civics, critical thinking, and conflict resolution before anything imo. That's all we need is a lowly educated populous with the ability to organize in a military fashion. All of it would also translate well to decentralization of force to various possible upstart political groups, as well as organized crime groups. The government would need deeper rights to the use of 'legitimate' force out of necessity, and that would not bode well for our already diminished civil liberties.

Governments need special administration, legal mechanisms, and bureaucracy's in place to deal with that major societal influence. Besides all of that, we all have entrenched in our western politics, culture and law the enshrinement of liberty, and a mandatory and forced government program like that would never be possible in our democracy's without the constitutions, charters and rights being challenged extensively and reworked.

Um... no.

That's not Basic Training, that's gym class with Drill Sergeants.
Yeah. But you have to start somewhere and it's better than nothing. It can cut the time of training since theoretically they would have spent at least 2 years of prep work.

Then that's not Basic Training.

It's mandatory government-mandated gym class. It'd be just as effective as regular gym class with a pissed off teacher.

Mandatory military service is a better idea than boot camp because at least the young men can be useful.

Neither are good ideas though
