I think the UFC are holding him back at this point. Dana is going to wait until the last minute in late August or September, once Jon Jones has broken the "longest HW title reign" record with a whopping 1 title defense. At that point Dana will tell Jones to defend or vacate.

We will only know Jon Jones is getting stripped when the UFC announces Aspinall vs Gane.

Jones likely smashes Tom in my personal opinion and Tom gets forgotten faster than Gane did. Like Immediately. Hope we get to see that fight in the near future.

Not only has Gane lost two title shots already, but probably at least half of MMA fans don't even think he won his last fight against Volkov. He's almost unsellable for the UFC. To go even further, if he somehow managed to beat Tom, Jon has already beat Gane so that road leads to nowhere anyway.

Aspinall vs Almeida for the undisputed title is the fight to make, if Jon doesn't want to fight, but of course Dana knows that fight isn't breaking 100k buys so that's also unsellable. Tom doesn't even really have any good options here. That Interim title has been more of a curse than a benefit.
