Should any Jones Challenger try the "run away" method when he tries for a takedown?

Not trying to say Alex was cowardly or anything, hell I wanted him to win, but someone who has been able to lay hands on him (like Machida) and someone who has power behind his hands (like Glover) would probably benefit greatly from this strategy, what do you guys think?

Im sure Texiera is taking notes on this fight.

Gus wasn't running from a standing Jones. Jones was diving at his feet in desperation to get hold of his feet.

IMO Glover has the power to stuff away the take-down easily. But a fake takedown attempt used to set an elbow could cause him problems.

Doubt it would work the key is stopping his takedowns not running from them.

Only in a situation like Alex was in the one time he did it, which was get out of there or get taken down. So yes, in an identical situation, do it. Or get taken down.

Well they could just stuff the TD unless Jones is on the ground like he was where it's illegal to actually hit him, then there is really no choice but to sit there and watch him grab your legs. It's not the same for all TDs.

    What is TS talking about?

Gus did what he was trained to do, he was clearing his leg/ankle from a single leg takedown attempt.

Do you expect people just let Jon take them down or what?

If he is going for your legs the best way to avoid the takedown is get your legs out of his grasp, sometimes that means running away for a split second to get your foot out, there is nothing wrong with it, we have seen it plenty in other fights.

I thought that was an awesome part of Gus' strategy, it seemed to really get Jones flustered. I don't think most other fighters could get out of the way in time to employ the same strategy though.

    Thank you.

Gus got his hips away when Jon would try to clinch so Jon would then shoot for the double but Gus had already started to pivot so Jon would have to settle for the single. Its very similar to what Aldo employs. Turn the double attempt into a single, whizzer, and pivot.

Why the fuck would you NOT run away if it gets you out of trouble?

It's like saying you're a coward for moving your head to avoid a punch.

This is simply correct technique to escape the single, turn and kick through, Jon Kept pursuing so he had to keep moving to escape.
