Shogun was beating Paul Craig in the stand up exchanges. Not bad considering his age, MMA mileage, and how sluggish he looked. He only lost after Craig decided he couldn't beat Shogun standing and took him to the ground.

If I hadn't watched the fight and just read the comments here on Sherdog, I would have thought Shogun got outclassed and dominated.

Craig was dominating Shogun on the feet in the 1st fight in the which made Shogun resort to panic hugging Craig in that fight which somehow became a draw due to Brazilian judges gonna Brazilian.

The MMA just bleed gods were angry for that hug fest from Shogun in that fight so they allowed Craig to right that wrong in making Shogun tap to strikes in the rematch.

Was truly a justice prevailed moment.

We need Craig to rematch Ankalaev and help us forget about that blip on Ankalaev's record. There should really be no doubt that Ankalaev crushes Craig right now.

I dont understand why people are calling this legend a pussy for tapping to strikes...do they forget all the wars he had and how he always walked forward?
Remember his fight with Hendo, that's a fucking warrior and put some respect on his name.
The man knows when he is done.
Alot of you got into fighting for the wrong reasons.
You should respect these legends or you make this forum look bad and I am a blue belt joined in 2018.

We can respect the man, but at the end of the day you gotta call a spade a spade. He's not exactly giving a good account of himself, compared to other old warhorses like Teixeira. At this point Shogun is just fighting for a paycheque. He looked completely gassed after the first round and seems to have mentally checked out. If you put yourself out there with such a performance, there will be people who would throw shade your way.

    Still a legend though.

Shogun is not properly advised by his coach and manager. He needs to retire as soon as possible.

I went and rewatched the fight, and yes, you're right. Craig was winning the striking exchanges in the 1st round.

2nd round was back and forth and basically a draw.

Near the end of the 3rd round, Shogun won the last striking exchange until Craig took him down.

Love Rua but his fans have always been annoying. Another one of those "my man was winning untill he lost" groups.

I'm not his fan. I'm just pointing out the fact that many of the threads made the fight appeared as if it was a blowout when in fact it was quite competitive until Shogun got taken down.

So in other words, Shogun was winning the fight untill he brutally lost. Again.

Way more media members and fans actually scored the 1st fight for Shogun.
    http://mmadecisions.com/decision/10697/Mauricio-Rua-vs-Paul-Craig
So the judges actually screwed Rua out of the win for the draw and made this rematch possible.
