Shogun or Wand - who had the best career

Shogun had the better career, but Wand is more impactful for MMA

Shogun won titles in both Pride and the UFC, and has named like Overeem, Machida (when everyone thought he was invincible), Chuck Liddell, Rampage and Lil Nog. Wand's top 5 wins in my opinion are Saku, Dan Henderson, Rampage, Bisping and Arona. However from 2000 to 2007, Wanderlei was the embodiment of Pride
Killed it. Great answer

If we talk about titles then Shogun, if we talk about longevity or health wise Wand, despite retiring. Shogun fighting when he clearly doesn't have knees and cardio it's bad.

I think Shogun will be judged as a better career since he fought higher caliber fighters when he came to the UFC. He beat Chuck where Silva lost to Chuck. The first fight in the UFC I kept asking myself why only 1 kick during a whole round. In pride his mix up with kicks where his bread and butter. Well, I found out he destroyed his knees before entering the UFC....Had shogun's knees been fine I think he would have won allot more in the UFC.

However, in pride Wanderlei was in his prime. His style of aggression cracks the chin that shortens a career. Beat Jackson twice who was better than a prime Chuck with an amazing chin. Its hard to judge though when you put both records side by side. Without the UFC bias I would put them as even.
But didn't silva fuck chuck?

How is it being a warrior fighting inferior competition? Wouldn't the true warrior take on the greatest foe and not numerous "Easy" foes? Not saying Wand did that but just that your logic seems flawed???

Perhaps you mean for pure violence Wand wins which I would definitely agree.

Fighting everyone and being active. It's not that Wand cherry picked. One night he could fight Rampage and the other Otsuka. Or Cro Cop or Hunt at HW. Doesn't matter who it is, he will try to take the head off. And the style. Shogun stayed at 205.

Shogun also beat Arona properly, Wanderlei won a split decision. Honestly Arona was robbed against Fedor and Wanderlei by current day judging. Shogun was also robbed against Machida in first fight and against Hendo in the first fight!

Shogun losing to Hendo make me forever hate Dan because with USADA and without his TRT and other stuff he would of been destroyed.
Arona lost to Fedor based on the RINGS judging criteria and he lost to Wanderlei in their rematch based on the Pride judging criteria. You can't just pretend the fights happened with a different judging criteria as the fighters would have fought differently.

Rua because he proved to be the best in an organization not run by a maffia
Not to burst your bubble but the Ferritas family, as well as everyone that own casinos in Vegas, is directly or indirectly linked to the mafia.

Both embody the true spirit of MMA. You fight anyone, anywhere, even if you will likely lose.

Warriors, always willing to put up a show for the crowd. No BS dry humping, playing safe, or pulling out of fights for nothing. Straight violence. I miss Pride days. WAR WAND and SHOGUN

wand got dominated by tito ortiz

but shogun got tapped by forrest griffin

so it has to be wand

Not in his prime years. In his first 4 years in Pride Wanderlei was an undefeated champion and beat a shit ton of good fighters, and even though he technically had an automatic draw against Cro-Cop because the fight went the distance, he clearly won that fight.

Wanderlei moving up to fight Mark Hunt (another fight I think he won) was the beginning of the end, and the second Cro-Cop fight was the final nail in the coffin, IMO. Wanderlei was never the same after that.
His balls were to big for his own good.

Dude had to juice to the gills to fight at 205 and he was taking on elite HW killers, and going to war with them (not trying to fight a technical fight or use his speed to avoid damage)

He was actually a fairly decent technical fighter when he needed to be early on. His fight against Bob Schrijber and his first fight against Cro-Cop showed he could take guys down, ground and pound and/or submit them if he felt they were a threat on the feet.

As many fighters tend to do when they age out, Wanderlei decided to abandon all those parts of his game and headhunt instead.

All those Chute Boxe gym wars certainly did no favors for his longevity either.

Everyone saying Shogun and some saying its not close (that's crazy talk). So imma go with Wanderlei! He had the better career, he was pretty much the sole ruler of the middleweight division in his era, had an amazing win streak. The level competition gots to be pretty close, but I'm going with Wand. I feel like he had better wins, made more money, and was more popular. He fought to a draw with CroCop in a fight he clearly won, Moved up and fought a 300 pound Mark Hunt on short notice and should of got the W. Beat Hendo fairly one sided the first fight. Rampage 2x, Arona, Saku 3X, Jardine, Cung Le, Bisping, Brian Stann. They both fought anyone and everyone. My vote is Wanderlei SilllllVVAAAAAAAA

Seeing Wanderlei's wins typed out like this, sheesh! What a resume! I think it's even more impressive he was able to beat all these names with such wild, wide striking. Just pure grit and violence to overwhelm his opponents.
