I've been training Muay Thai for about 4 years now. I've noticed over the years my shins lose and regain strength.

Its known that with proper training you can build up your shins by breaking down the bone and deadening the nerves. So my question is: Does the bone ever return to it's original design after a lack of training? Meaning do the bones lose their tinsel strength if you aren't bashing the hell out of them every day? Do the nerves ever regain their sensitivity?

Is there a fookin doctor in the house? I'm fucking dying man

Yes do they. Everything on body heals in time including your shins.

I was wanting them to at least keep the thickness I worked so hard to achieve. So does that mean if I take some time off I will have to kick some tree to get them up to par again?

I was almost to the point that shin on shin contact didn't hurt anymore. Then I had to take some time off for personal reason and that shit hurts again. I'm a skinny guy. I have really bony shins.

Start with kicking rubber trees, in a training montage or two you should be kicking plaster off columns and through Louisville Sluggers and Corey Hill.

LMFAO! That has made my morning.

Sorry to break it to you but shit happens. I'm in the same boat now. Kick a tire bag and do padwork.

If it's really causing your shins pain and you don't wanna toughen them up Why don't you try not using your shin? Like in Wing Chun when we defend a kick we don't block it shin on shin we get our shin on the meaty part of the leg so say for e.g im attacked by a low roundhouse kick i will go under his leg with mine and kick up driving my shin into the back of his leg hurting him and getting him off balance aswell or try cutting it off at the source so if he goes round house kick you go snap kick to the balls your kick will land first cause its got shorter distance to travel

That won't work in a muaythai match and the TS knows it. Muaythai trumps wingchun any day of the week. He knows that he will have to toughen his shins again.

Oh i didn't know it was for MT matches i thought he just meant for like street fighting and self defence ummm.... well if thats the case yeah toughen the shins or kick with the foot instep/heel etc.. like TKD, Karate, Savate and Kung Fu do till the shins are tough enough to take the damage again guess :D

Fuck kicking with your foot/instep or heel. Once hardened, nothing beats the shin. All he has to do is use it and it will develop.

Have you tried catherizing your shins?

I get what your saying he should develop his shin's im just saying if there like bruised and swallon and bloodied it wouldent be smart to keep using them till they recover and heal up properly.

Plus kicking with the foot is very effective thats why it is used by so many styles like Karate, TKD, Savate, Kung Fu, Krav Maga and many many more. It allows you to kick from any position/stance, You dont do that big winding motion so your opponent doesnt see it coming from a mile away so it's harder to counter/defend, there faster to throw out, you dont have to reset your stance between each kick which allows you to do kicking combos like 3-4 kicks in few seconds and you get a few inch reach advantage then if using only your shin obviously cause the foot is at the end of the shin and that will help in many situations where you need extra reach:icon_chee

But if he has no knowledge or training in foot kicks i guess he should clinch utilise his knees, elbows and dirty boxing to avoid his shins getting kicked into oblivion

I do understand where you are coming from with the TMA's but I began my martial arts training at 7 years old in TKD, then moved on to tang soo do, and wing chun after that. All those are useless once you get blasted in the body by a proficient nakmuay. Ask me how I know. None of the TMAs you mentioned generate any real power with there kicking techniques. When I began training muaythai, I completely abandoned all the TMA shit that I learned and quickly became decent at muaythai. I still have a lot to learn but also know plenty. I attribute that to natural ability and my former trainers, my father in law and uncle in law. Both used to fight in Thailand and Laos. I'm sure the TS will not let his shins go again. I know I won't:icon_chee
