"EDIT:For those who didn't read until the end GSP》Shields, it wasn't a thread to sh** on GSP but more to pay some respect to Shields."

Pretty crazy how Shields never really gets mentioned anywhere. He beat guys like:
    Hendo
    Woodley
    Maia
    Condit
    Okami
    Lawler
    Sakurai
    ...
    Crazy isn't it?
    That being said: GSP 》Shields

I guess you've missed the many threads claiming he's one of the best welterweights ever

What’s with these stupid amount threads today “So and so’s career is better than this persons! I’m not wrong!”

It’s not a new thing to do, but it seems someone told the kids it was popular? Or just blatant non creative trolling Smh

He's universally considered a top 10 WW of all time.

Pat Miletich and Jon Fitch are also not mentioned on a daily basis. I think TS should now open new threads about them. Why? Because he can (insert eye roll here).

there has been lots mate. nobody is going to dig up ten threads but they exist. Shields being a ATG WW was a very common topic when he was still relevant.

he had a great career. I don't think his wins are better than GSPs but it's fairly close.

Hendo and Lawler wins were at MW. GSP man handled him. He'll be remembered as a great jujitsu guy more than anything else.

Never won the most prestigious thing in the sport, lost to the guy you're trying to shit on, and way more losses.

Here's a thread listing him as an all-time top ten welterweight:
    https://forums.sherdog.com/threads/...e-before-khamzat-chimaev-usman-burns.4142831/

Next, one where he's considered as a #2 welterweight GOAT:
    https://forums.sherdog.com/threads/is-jake-shields-the-second-best-ww-of-all-time.3988015/

And there's even one where he's considered the welterweight GOAT over GSP:
    https://forums.sherdog.com/threads/jake-shields-gsp.3358849/

But I guess no one else is proclaiming his greatness around here

I've lurked a long time on Sherdog before joining. Lots of threads are repeats. I could spend years counting all of the "Conor is the GOAT" and the "Conor sucks" threads, but nobody complains about those. Let TS have this. It's far from being the most derivative.

That said, Shields is an extremely under-rated fighter! Plus, he beat a lot of really great guys at both 170 and 185. GSP is certainly the GOAT welterweight, but I think Shields is arguably the #2. You can debate his career vs Matt Hughes, and I think you have a strong argument either way.

I think he gets missed because his accomplishments are spread across two divisions. He's recognized as a top welterweight, even though his most notable accomplishments were really in the middleweight division (in Strikeforce).
Like he was a p4p great because he was a ww who beat some of the top mw's in his era, but he was never the best ww or mw, so it's hard to give him more cred than guys who were clear divisional #1s. Hendo kind of has the same problem, which is funny cause he's Shields' best win.

Shields is a top 5 WW of all time no doubt. But GSPs win over Shields is greater than any win on Shields resume. They both fought in thieir prime and GSP got the better of it.

The little secret about GSP is that his Shields win was bigger than his Hughes win. Sadly the fight with him was pretty god damn boring.

Did you actually watch his fights, or just a quick glance to his record?

Out of the 7 wins you mention at least three of them - Okami, Maia, Woodley - are extremely controversial.
Shiels is an all-time great WW for sure but comparing him with GSP who barely lost a round is ridiculous

It definitely wasn't bigger, mainly for a couple reasons:

    - Hughes was the WW champion. Shields was coming off a highly controversial decision vs Kampmann.
    - GSP outclassed and finished Hughes. GSP edged out a decision and stll gave up rounds to Shields in the feet
