I had to quit my old MT place last year because it was too expensive.

But there is this place called the chicago fitness center thats is the headquarters of the shidokan organization.

Shidokan is like an offshoot of kyokushin. and they also offer submission grappling which I need because I have never grappled. and they have boxing and MT too.

Its also a two floored full gym.

and its only around $50 a month which is 1/3 of what I used to pay.

I was wondering if anyone here trains there, or knows anything about the place. I am going to join it because it sounds like a good deal.

I also hear Shonie Carter teaches mma classes there sometimes.

i would not reccomend training there at all. Shonie and Brian Gassaway don't really seem to give half a shit about the students there. Shonie taught the muay thai class and he would consistently show up late. Grappling and muay thai are only taught once a week and they really don't focus on technique alot. Shonie is a brawler, and he will train you like a brawler.

Where in the city do you live? Where did you use to train? If it isn't too far i'd reccomend checking out my gym: Team Toro. www.team-toro.com They share the building with a judo club and everyone is very serious and competent.
Hit me up on AIM (brianmacdaddy2) and maybe we can train together. I live on the northside. I'm going to depaul university and lack a car to get out to my gym so i'm always looking for serious training partners.

seems like a good place, but its way too far for me to get to. I used to train at Degerberg, but its not worth it because it was too expensive. but the MT wasnt bad at all.

But if I could go that far, I would also consider the combat do/aiki training hall in cicero. its also a good place but too far for me to drive to.

I live in Lincolnwood (north) I go to UIC.

It really sucks that there arent any good mma places in the city.

It sucks what your saying about cfc, but its so much closer to me.

I dont care about "famous" guys teaching me, so if theyre not into it, it doesnt bother me. So far I like the cheap price and the near by location.

There is a "gracie barra" place even closer but I bet they charge a lot, and only do grappling.

I want a place that does both grappling and striking.

Anyone know of any other non advertised places in the northside of the city?

all these places are in the south suburbs.

That almost brought a tear to my eye. You don't know shit about me so don't assume shit.

I train at Sheridan Park. It's right by UIC. Tayler and Alberdeen. I'll give you more detail.

Yeah I heard about this from a friend.

You know this huge (to me anyway) black guy named Karim? He says he trains there.

I also know a couple of kids that want to make an mma club at UIC. That would be straight.

I trained for a weekend there when I was 19 that was like 9 years ago almost 10 now so I dont if its changed at all now? Great bunch of guys then, had some very hardcore fighters all preparing for the Shidokan Event, was alot like Kyokushin type fighting with grappling.. I wanted to see what they were all about so I went there with my step dad/instructor at the time to check it out.

i use 2 train at CFC now i go 2 combat-do thats another could place 2 train at if ur really into BJJ plus Master BOB is like the best teacher
