NOTE to NON-MEMBERS: Interested in joining the SHERDOG MOVIE CLUB? Shoot me a PM for more info.
Here's a quick list of all movies watched by the SMC. Or if you prefer, here's a more detailed examination.
We're running into a string of newbie weeks, and first up to the plate is @Strange King.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)
Director: André Øvredal
Stars: Brian Cox, Emile Hirsch, Ophelia Lovibond
Premise: A father and son, both coroners, are pulled into a complex mystery while attempting to identify the body of a young woman, who was apparently harboring dark secrets.
Why @Strange King picked it: It is a solid film that has the same director as Troll Hunter. I have become a very solid fan of his and this seems like a film that was not as easily accessible the public as other films.
Trailer:
Troll Hunter (2010)
Director: André Øvredal
Stars: Otto Jespersen, Robert Stoltenberg, Knut Nærum
Premise: A group of students investigates a series of mysterious bear killings, but learns that there are much more dangerous things going on. They start to follow a mysterious hunter, learning that he is actually a troll hunter.
Why @Strange King picked it: Same reason as Jane Doe. The director has show versatility helming two completely different movies while nailing them both.
Trailer:
Antibirth (2016)
Director: Danny Perez
Stars: Natasha Lyonne, Chloë Sevigny, Meg Tilly
Premise: In a desolate community full of drug-addled Marines and rumors of kidnapping, a wild-eyed stoner named Lou wakes up after a wild night of partying with symptoms of a strange illness and recurring visions as she struggles to get a grip on reality while stories of conspiracy spread.
Why @Strange King picked it: It's not a very common film but is very dark and has a very unique twist on an old tale. Very strange and funny.
Trailer:
The Void (2017)
Director: Jeremy Gillespie, Steven Kostanski
Stars: Aaron Poole, Kenneth Welsh, Daniel Fathers
Premise: Shortly after delivering a patient to an understaffed hospital, a police officer experiences strange and violent occurrences seemingly linked to a group of mysterious hooded figures.
Why @Strange King picked it: It's a horror film that is not as good as the The Thing or Hellraiser but that has elements of these dark films that filled my lust for horror.
Trailer:
