NOTE to NON-MEMBERS: Confused about what's going on in here? See the following thread:
http://forums.sherdog.com/threads/could-a-sherdog-movie-watching-club-work.3237221/
Director: Mike Nichols
Stars: Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, George Segal
Premise: A bitter, aging couple, with the help of alcohol, use a young couple to fuel anguish and emotional pain towards each other.
Why @EL CORINTHIAN picked it: I chose this because i fell in love with it from a literature class i took in first year at uni. There is a ton of symbolism and hidden meanings that have led to many theories as to what the over all message of the movie is. People have agreed that it's all about the American Dream and the repercussions of it's pursuit. The acting is top shelf as well.
Trailer:
Vicky Christina Barcelona (2008)
Director: Woody Allen
Stars: Scarlett Johansson, Javier Bardem, Rebecca Hall
Premise: Two girlfriends on a summer holiday in Spain become enamored with the same painter, unaware that his ex-wife, with whom he has a tempestuous relationship, is about to re-enter the picture.
Why @EL CORINTHIAN picked it: I chose this because honestly this is the life we all dreamed we had. Sure it's borderline psychotic and comes with added baggage dating 2 girls but when men/women visualize themselves in the shoes of the characters it's truly what we want. This guy is an Artist is perpetually stuck in love with a psychotic Penelope Cruz (who is mint btw) and an american tourist scarlette johanson (who is also mint) came out to play and they are in a vicious love triangle. The whole time the film is set in spain with a beautiful scenery all over and is just a visual and psychological treat for the viewer. So basically i chose it for its beauty. This has potential for profound discussion on life and how we view it.
Trailer:
Equilibrium (2002)
Director: Kurt Wimmer
Stars: Christian Bale, Tay Diggs, Sean Bean, Emily Watson
Premise: In a Fascist future where all forms of feeling are illegal, a man in charge of enforcing the law rises to overthrow the system.
Why @EL CORINTHIAN picked it: I chose this because its just cool. The gun-Karate style of fighting is an absolute pleasure to watch and its highly political in nature with an authoritarian government mandating the population to take meds to erase their emotions to keep society in check. Alot of political and human nature Convo could be inspired by this.
Trailer:
Princess Mononoke (1997)
Director: Hayao Miyazaki
Stars: Depends on whether you're watching subbed or dubbed. . .
Premise: On a journey to find the cure for a Tatarigami's curse, Ashitaka finds himself in the middle of a war between the forest gods and Tatara, a mining colony. In this quest he also meets San, the Mononoke Hime.
Why @EL CORINTHIAN picked it: I wanted to make this list as random as possible with movies that appeal to a wide range of viewers and i didnt think this list would be complete without some sort of Animated film. My choice was Princess Mononoke because its just gorgeous. The characters and the animals are presented in such a unique way and the story is fresh. The concept of These gigantic animals being Gods and the forest spirit being this mythical, ultra rare sight that only makes a few appearances through out the film adds to the allure of it all.
Trailer:
Casino Royale (2006)
Director: Martin Campbell
Stars: Daniel Craig, Eva Green, Judi Dench
Premise: Armed with a licence to kill, Secret Agent James Bond sets out on his first mission as 007 and must defeat a weapons dealer in a high stakes game of poker at Casino Royale, but things are not what they seem.
Why @EL CORINTHIAN picked it: This is IMO one of the greatest Bond films ever. Daniel Craig has showed some animosity to the character of Bond but thats mainly for PR purposes in the hopes he doesnt get type cast for the rest of his career. But when craig was hungry for it and beleived in the role of James Bond, the film turned out brilliant. This is an iconic film within the series and a defining moment in the franchise (literally) as they set off to discover how Bond turned into the man we all know all love. This movie has it all. Action, Humor, Hot broads, fast cars, violence, a life to envy and a role model if anything.

The discussion thread for this movie will go up Wednesday the 29th!
This week we're moving on to @EL CORINTHIAN. He has a pretty diverse list here, with no discernible theme or pattern. Typically I can zero in on one or two movies that I think are the real favorites to win, but in this case I just can't do it. It should be an interesting voting week.
Here are our candidates!
Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966)

Stars: Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, George Segal
