First of all, fook your imdb ratings

second of all, yes. i am conspiring with @europe1 . it's a conspiracy. we aren't even hiding it anymore.

IMDb gave it the highest rating of the 3. You can shrug off RT being a 29 because those bitches ain't trustworthy, but that 29 on Metacritic is a bit concerning. Torture porn is one of those genres that some people can't stomach, not me mind you, but that might account for most of that 29/100 stuff. Bullitt liked it though so that is just bizarre to me.

so minus the whinging, you’re saying you would have voted for one of the three that have tied? or am i missing something?

Well I have to vote for something Henry. Do I want to see some dude get his dick slammed in a door jam four or five times or see some people shoving disgusting things in their mouths? Hmm.

well as long as it’s not the latter

Fook metacritic too then.
The Collector is a great movie.
It is definitely graphic, but it's clever.

That leaves me with gross food and viscera or torture porn that somehow @Bullitt68 admired even though it scored a 29 on Meta, a 29 on RT, and a 6.4 on IMDb.

No joke, just last week in the film history class that I'm teaching, for my "American Cinema in the 2000s" lecture, I touched on the emergence of the "torture porn" subgenre and I talked about The Collector. I love it so much I teach it! It's seriously that cool to me. It's the type of plot that'd make 10 out of 10 screenwriters who live for pitches give their left nut to be able to walk into a meeting with it, and credit to the crew that it's not just a cool sounding movie that never lived up to the promise of the premise but actually delivers on the promised awesomeness.

I'll tell you the same thing I told my students: Don't let the torture porn label get in the way. Genres and categories are useful as we try to organize the world into processible units, but the baggage that comes with that label, the negative connotations - The Collector is as much "torture porn" as Inception is a "mindless action movie." If you give it a chance, I expect you'll enjoy having gone for the ride.

And if you're still not convinced, just remember that I have impeccable taste and am right about everything all the time.

I'll change my vote to The Collector

I only voted Wolf Creek because I wanted to call it overrated

<21>

well at least it’s not The Platform i guess

I gotta admit, I kinda wanted to see The Platform. I don't think I've ever seen a movie where the social subtext was that much on the nose:D

Outside of the social commentary it's an intense movie. Funny at times as well.
I've heard quite a few people say they didn't like the ending, but I thought it was fitting.
