A sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is officially on the way with Destin Daniel Cretton returning to direct and write. He’s also in development on a Marvel series for Disney Plus.

Cretton has signed an exclusive multi-year overall deal with Marvel Studios and Hulu’s Onyx Collective. The new deal will allow Cretton to develop TV projects for both Marvel Studios on Disney Plus and the Onyx Collective for Hulu and other platforms.

Shang-Chi released over Labor Day weekend and currently is the highest-grossing film at the domestic box office with $224.5 million. The film made history for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the first to feature an Asian lead and mostly Asian cast, which included Simu Liu, Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina and Tony Leung. At the worldwide box office, the film has made $431.9 million so far and stands as the eighth highest-grossing film.

“Destin is an amazing collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill to ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.’ We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney Plus, so we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can’t wait to get started,” said Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige in a statement.

Not much is known about Cretton’s Marvel series on Disney Plus, but sources tell Variety it is a comedy.

Nice. I found the first instalment quite enjoyable, despite it not resembling the books. Thanks!

Saw this movie on Disney Plus a few weeks ago and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Would love to see some more grounded heroes get the big budget treatment- now that Daredevil will be in MCU he and other street level heroes teamed with Shang Chi would be dope.

The Defenders was a huge let down...

Happy to hear that. In the interviews I saw, the director seemed cool, and Marvel could use some new blood in terms of creativity.

More kung fu action, I'm even down for wire fu or blending in sfx to the kung fu stuff, but keep the pure cgi fights to a minimum.

It seems I'm in the minority but I hated the first movie. The bus fight was fine. The lame crouching tiger fight with the dad and mom was too cheesey for me. The fat kid filming the bus fight and making the same kind of unfunny jokes that are in so many marvel movies annoyed me. Couldn't stand the lady. With the froggy voice. Just obnoxious and unfunny.

I'm not hating, just being honest. I usually love marvel. This one was just not my style.

i think i watched it two weeks back and i can hardly remember what it was about
very forgettable
meh quality
but hey, marvel movies are for the lowest common denominator so ...

I hope that they're able to add another Chinese movie legend like a Jackie Chan, Chow Yun-Fat or Jet Li to the sequel.

First marvel installation with no redeeming features..

More grounded fighting scenes and less cgi dragons and asian wakanda please.

You did watch it after all.

I hope they give Shang Chi a nicer costume.

Haven't seen it yet.

Just released today, bought the bluray and am about to watch.
