I am getting ready for a fight in August (kickboxing/ K1/European rules), this will be the first fight i have had against an opponent with a reach advatage over me. Either way, been working on getting my head movement tighter and closing up my guard a little more. I usually fight out of a more shell type defense, carry my lead a bit low and use my jab to keep in range. Like I mentioned though, I have almost always had a significant reach/speed advantage..... This will be an adjustment for me! I still think I will have a pretty good speed advantage...... pointers are welcome.

(Clip of some recent shadowboxing work, working on what i mentioned above. Advice and criticism is welcome. Most of this is at half speed, just focusing on the technique)

I like your handspeed on the bag, but I cant see if your pivoting.

I also like your left hook, but rather would not step forward. As for you uppercuts, you should be less square and point more outwards, partiularly your lead uppercut. It can be very dangerous when done perfectly.

Also, you might want to shadow spar a bit higher if you are fighting someone with bigger reach, and of course movement is more important if you like keep your lead hand down.

Whats most surprising is that you get a full 2 or more months notice with a prematched opponenent. Never knew some amatuer fights are that organized. I take it in a few weeks notice, and we even have walk in fights as long as you have a AM license.

Also do you mind posting your height and fight weight?

Thanks for the tip on the uppercut, i didnt notice that before. I am used to having the height advantage so my UC is usually how I keep a shorter fighter from pressing me in close, but I have been sparring a lot of taller guys and have noticed that i am missing my UC short....... now I see why!
