Leben was coming off a quick win over Aaron Simpon on June 19, fought Akiyama on July 3rd. Both men put on an amazing performance for the Just Bleed God and brawled for 3 rounds until Leben pulled off the submission.

The only time he has been submitted, by the Crippler.

Loved that fight. I was so pissed at Akiyama for gassing this hard and being tapped by Leben by a fucking triangle. Boy did I love mma back then.

Yeah, even worse that Akiyama was winning the third round before the choke as well. Great fight though. Both showed serious iron chins and was quite surprised to see Akiyama outbrawl Leben. I still don’t get why Dana then decided the best course of action would be to feed Akiyama to Belfort.

Well back then they were still high on Akiyama like he was a future contender. Talking about high, was Belfort already totally high on trt back then? Or was it only when he came back to mw to fight Bisping in 2013?

Come to think of it, that describes Lombard too. Neither use their judo enough.

I was at the event when Leben broke Benji Radach’s jaw at sport fight 4 some 15 years ago. Ed Herman also won that night. I miss the good old days. War Leben!

It was due to all the muscle he put on. Akiyama has gone 3 hard rounds in the past. But he put on some serious muscle mass around the leben fight.
